What our customers say about their holidays

  • Katherine - Verified booking

    Slightly delayed review!

I booked Harbour Hideaway as a very last minute few days away with my mum and kids last July. I was nervous as I knew there were steps involved which mum would find challenging, however the pictures and reviews looked good enough for me to chance it and I’m so glad I did. The house is upside down, with a double bedroom and bathroom on the ground floor. Up the first flight of stairs to another double room and a room with two singles, along with a cloakroom. Finally up to the second floor for the open plan kitchen and living space, boasting a balcony with harbour views (hence the property name). The whole place was beautifully decorated with a theme in keeping with the location. It was clean and well stocked with games, local leaflets and coffee. We were greeted before arrival with a text message from the owners with the front door key-box code and wishing us a pleasant stay, with their contact details should we have any issues. I contacted them with a couple of minor questions and received a prompt and comprehensive response - despite them being out of the country! Harbour Hideaway is situated just off the waterfront, almost in the centre of town. 60 seconds from the front door and you are in the high street, surrounded by cafes and gift shops; the beach and Banjo Pier a few minutes down the road one way and a supermarket and pharmacy the other way. There is no parking at the accommodation, however you can stop nearby to unload the car and then there is a long stay car park at the front of town, a short walk away. The weather was not kind to us, but we still managed to sit on the balcony with our morning tea, go for a walk along the pier, skim stones on the beach and catch fish and crabs along the harbour walls. The only reason I wouldn’t recommend the beautiful Harbour Hideaway would be that I don’t want it full when I wish to book again!

If you have come across this house on your holiday search then stop looking as this property is stunning yet incredibly homely.

If you love a view, well, who doesn’t ? this home offers a different view from each window that changes throughout the day. You can see a lot of thought has gone into getting this home ready to welcome guests, for me it’s always the little things,a pint of milk in the fridge, tea & coffee left for arrival, towels & tea towels, toilet paper, washer & dryer which means one less job when you have to leave and can arrive back home still relaxed from the sea air & views, there are also books, dvd’s, games, binoculars, Alexa speakers, coffee machine for ground coffee, a huge, modern fridge/freezer, the tv set up is a bit complicated if you’re used to just turning the tv on and watching the tv, I’m sure your tv has DVB so no need for the freeview box ?but I work in this industry so I was the one holding 3 remotes, loading the dvd & finding the right programs ! The garden does state it’s enclosed which it isn’t fully so if you have a dog or small child they will need supervision, the balcony is enclosed and has enough furniture to enjoy an morning cuppa, alfresco dining or just a glass of wine while soaking in the views plus it was perfect for my puppy to lie on in the sun (when we had some) ! Every seat in the living room has a different view and there are more than enough furniture for a large family. The bedrooms are all large and have enough hangers and drawer space in each room and the beds are large and comfortable. The driveway fits 2 cars but we parked on the roadway covering the drive due to steepness as our car boots wouldn’t close as the sensors see the drive as an obstruction but that’s BMW for you ! Could do with a bin outside instead of in the garage as we couldn’t locate garage key but this is not a negative just a suggestion. Looe island view was warm, comfortable, homely and welcoming. A true 10 out of 10

Copper Bal Cottage was very clean and tidy, with stylish modern furnishings and tasteful artwork. It has an off-road parking space ideal for a medium-sized car or an on-road parking for a larger car. The garden is really pretty with a patio and a grass lawn, flowers and trees and a choice of seating options. We enjoyed meals on the patio and sitting under the awning to read and relax. We cooked in the kitchen which is well-equipped with a full-sized cooker, fridge-freezer and washing machine. The dining area is bright and comfortable. The lounge is cosy with a TV and streaming services. We didn't need the log burner but this would have been a treat on a cold or wet week. Upstairs the beds are comfortable with white linens and the shower is excellent. It is ideal for a couple of friends - like all older properties the ceilings are low in several of the downstairs rooms and on the stairs but we were aware of this when we booked and it is no problem for someone under 6 feet tall. The village is most practical with the village stores across the road, a post office and a few pubs; it is on a bus route and there are proper roads! There is such a lot to do nearby, magical coastline such as Prussia Cove, gardens such as Trengwainton and Godolphin, the Minack Theatre and St Michael's Mount. It is easy to shop, with Penzance so close by. And don't forget the superb jumpers at Tam O'Shanter in Penzance. You could go on a day trip to the Isles of Scilly from the Penzance Heliport or stay here before going onto Scilly for longer. The owner had gone to a lot of effort to make you feel at home and the letting company provided welcome packs on arrival.

We had a fantastic weekend at Harbour Hideaway, the house is amazing and tastefully decorated.

Beds were very comfortable and room sizes were ideal. Looe has become a happy place for us, so it was lovely to see all the little pun signs on the walls spread around the house. The Christmas tree was a bonus, we wasn't expecting it at all and was a nice surprise, especially as we went to Fowey Christmas Market, it put us nicely in the Christmas mood. We noticed some damp on the first floor of the propoerty in the bathroom and twin bedroom, nothing much but may get out of hand if it's not treated correctly. The kitchen had everything we needed and was well equipped, the whole house is very well laid out. The views are amazing, it was lovely to wake up and see the harbour and we drank our morning coffee on the balcony with great views of the river. I loved the clock at the top of the stairs and it has inspired me to look for one myself, I also loved the painting of 'Looe Lovers' by the dining table, I'm on the hunt to find the print from the local artist. As ever, there is always something to do in Looe, we walked on the beach and on Banjo Pier, had a coffee overlooking St George's Island from Hannafore and we drove to Tannd Bay and Lantic Bay. We look forward to coming back and thank you for a wonderful stay at Harbour Hideaway. PS. If you know where I could source the print 'Looe Lovers' - please let me know!!!

    The property was not clean.

Hairs and toothpaste found in the bathroom sink, dirty marks on the toilet seat, sticky marks and food crumbs on kitchen worktops, dusty, dirty surfaces and floors. Photographs provided to Sykes. The television did not work and it was clear from conversations with the owner that she was aware of this and therefore property listings are knowingly inaccurate. In my opinion, parking in a 'nearby street' is misleading. Guest are not made to feel welcome. There is no welcome pack and not basics left in the kitchen. Not even a teabag. No hand soap, or any soap to wash ones hands after visiting the toilet, on arrival at the property. Unfortunately, finding a dirty and unhygienic property outweighs any positives that this property may have. Furthermore, the attitude of the owner was poor as was the attitude of Sykes. The owner is in breech of contract, as stated in Sykes booking conditions, yet Sykes will not do anything about this. Furthermore, Sykes ratings clearly cannot be relied on and are not only unhelpful, but misleading when trying to choose a property. Therefore, I could not recommend Sykes to anyone.
