What our customers say about their holidays

We really enjoyed staying at Mole Cottage and thought that it offered good value for money for the week in February that we chose.
It is furnished nicely and described quite accurately on most counts and well provided with kitchen equipment. It had evidently had a decor refresh through the preceding weeks and was in great condition and very clean. Quite small and possibly could be challenging space-wise having 4 people in the property. A few thoughts; 1. The welcome pack with Scones and Shortbread was a nice gesture and much appreciated. 2. It might be worth having someone switch on the heating (or at the very least leave it on 14 celsius tickover) ahead of guests arriving in the Winter mpnths - it took two days to get the place reasonably warm, thereafter it was fine and warm. 3. Parking - We think the issues around car parking in Mousehole should be made more conspicuous in the listing as even in Winter we had trouble getting parked some evenings. In Summer it must be an absolute nightmare and we would have been very disappointed if this had not been made clear beforehand. The prospect of having to use the Mousehole bus and park in Penzance would not have been well received. 4. Stairs - I think greater emphasis in the listing should also be given to the steps, the lower stairs and their steepness. The listing does mention this but it needs greater emphasis. The stairs from the living area down to the kitchen / bathroom are very narrow and steep, as are the entrance steps. We are both very fit, able bodied people yet we felt that anyone who was in any way limited in their physical confidence or mobility would really struggle to cope with these stairs and front steps, this should be very clearly highlighted. There is no way to avoid the lower stairs as they are the only access to the kitchen and bathroom. Likewise if we had had young children these stairs would have presented a considerable risk. This needs to be explicitly clear in the listing. However, Mole Cottage is in a great location in Mousehole, quiet, comfortable and very clean. Taking the above points into consideration we would recommend but only to able bodied guests or those with children aged perhaps 8 upwards. It is not suitable for anyone with any mobility issues or who is not confident about using steep stairs or steps.

We visited in March 2024 for a week.
The area was lovely and quiet as out of season, the cottage is in an ideal location and we was able to walk to two nearby beaches. The Oyster Catcher just a 5 minute walk away is really nice, they serve great food and the staff were really friendly. We absolutely loved our week in Cornwall and visited lots of places, we would love to return to Trebetherick, but would not book this cottage again. The cottage is a good size and gets plenty of light, but it is not comfy or cosy for a holiday stay. The biggest disappointment for us was the sofa in the main living/kitchen area, it was so uncomfy to the point we started going to bed early at 8pm to just try and be comfy in the bedroom on an evening, after a long day exploring all you want to do on an evening is relax, not here, we even tried padding it out with quilts from the beds we weren't using. To simply put it the sofa desperately needs replacing. The TV in the living/kitchen area is really small, you just don't get that living room vibe here. The second smaller living room has a large TV and a slightly better sofa, but it is full of stains and generally just felt dirty, again we put a quilt over it to try and make it feel more relaxing, but this room was full of webs and spiders. The floors were dirty throughout the cottage, we kept slippers on at all times. Things like the cutlery drawer were really dirty and full of bits etc. If you have any young children consider that they will be sleeping downstairs whilst you are upstairs at the other side of the cottage, with long corridors/rooms between them and the main bedroom - there is a large distance between the main upstairs ensuite bedroom and the two bedrooms downstairs, both being right next to main doors leading outside. The cottage could be really lovely, but unfortunately it is not getting the maintenance it needs to make it a comfortable holiday cottage.

We have just stayed in Apple Loft which we really enjoyed.
The property is a period conversion, with lots of old world charm. It has all you would expect from a modern property but it's clearly a building with lots of history, with exposed wooden beams in most rooms. The lounge kitchen dinner has 2 two seater comfy leather sofas, smart TV with dvd player and a log burner which the owner kindly provides logs and kindling for, the kitchen has a electric cooker, microwave, toaster, and dishwasher. There's a laundry bar with shared use of a washing machine and dryer. The double master bedroom is accessed via a steep wooden staircase which before arrival we thought might be an issue but it wasn't at all. The bedroom is huge and very light and airy with 2 velux roof lights windows, a regular window overlooking the farm and a door the the back garden area. The twin room is accessed via stairway with approximately 5 steps the room has two single beds and a window overlooking the farm. The wooden beams in this room are quite low making this room better suited for children. The bathroom has a lovely freestanding bath and a shower cubicle, washing hand basin and WC. It also has a heated towel rail and fan heater. There is also a large entrance cloak area to store shoes and coats. Parking a right outside of the property. Thanks to Vicki and Chris for a lovely stay, all of the little extras supplied are really useful and much appreciated. Thanks for the scones, jam and clotted cream they were delicious, even having milk, tea, coffee and sugar on arrival was really thoughtful and very handy after a long journey. We really hope to stay again in the future. Best wishes for Lambing season. Mark, Sandra, Bruno and Angela X

Absolutely loved our time in the Apple Loft on Menaburle Farm, would definitely go back and have recommended it to everyone that will listen!
This is an old building situated on a working farm so bugs, single lane roads, farm smells and uneven flooring are all part of the package. Wasn't an issue for us but worth noting if any of those things are a big issue for you. There was cake, biscuits, tea, coffee and milk waiting for us when we arrived and all cleaning products were provided. The lodge itself is beautiful with comfy clean beds and a wood burner for the evenings. The owners are nothing short of phenomenal, taking our girls out to feed the animals and ride the ponies and they seemed genuinely offended when we asked them how much we owed them! They were really helpful with advice on the local area too. The lodge is about a 15 minute drive from the nearest village Lostwithiel, where there are pubs, shops, a co-op and chippy. The hours they serve food in the pubs vary so check ahead. It's also within 90 minutes of the whole of Cornwall, within 15 minutes of the major roads to pretty much everywhere. Dogs are welcome in the lodge and in most of the local pubs and the lodge has a fenced garden to keep the doggy safe. Cornwall overall is amazing for dog owners with even some big attractions allowing dogs in. I can't recommend the Apple Loft highly enough, if you have kids who love animals you just will not get a better place to stay! Very reasonably priced and

Car parking was supposed to have been provided.
It turned out that the "allocated space" was over 200 yards from the apartment and it was VERY tight (with a ford fiesta), plus you had to manoeuvre into it from the main road through Boscastle with one side being a blind bend. My husband is very good at parking but having knocked his wing mirror twice, he gave up using the space and used the public car park, which was chargeable from 10 am to 5 pm. To unload our car when we arrived, we were told we could use the double yellows outside the property, but this was taken with another vehicle so we were not able to do so. There was supposed to have been a garden - there wasn't. There was a small courtyard with planters at the front of the property, but this was for access to the whole building. The gate from this courtyard was straight out onto a main road, without pavement, so it was not safe for our daughter. The lounge from the property is partly below the level of the road, so you feel that you are in a basement. Immediately outside the window there was a cafe, so you felt that you needed to have the blind down the whole time to have some privacy. Both bedrooms overlooked the main road so we felt that we had no privacy and had to keep the blinds drawn.
