What our customers say about their holidays
Ruth - Verified booking
I had my 75th birthday here with hubby, two daughters, one son-in-law and five teenage grandchildren.
The location is superb for surfing beaches a short drive away, King Arthurâs castle ruins and amazing new bridge. Etc. The house exceeded our expectations in many ways but in a couple of others didnât. However the owner, who lives next door was always on hand to answer queries and more than ready to take on board our suggestions. We were only his second guests since he took it on and so was keen to hear any slight quibbles and to put them right for future guests. The info from Sykes about the house was a bit misleading with the Covid instructions. They said there would be no cushions on the sofas and that there would be no games, maps, books etc. All these things were there so we neednât have brought our own. It also states that there is a beach 200 metres away! No there isnât! The sea might be but not a useable beach. Also we assumed, wrongly, that as it is a big house it would have a reasonable size garden. So we brought a gazebo but there was nowhere to put it up. The outdoor space is tiny with the hot tub taking up half and a BBQ and two benches with small table the rest. So if you have a BBQ meal you really need a table and chairs to eat it at outside. The hot tub is a luxury but we felt a garden dining set would be more useful. Also there is nowhere outdoors to dry wet swimmers, towels or washing although an electric drier and clothes horse indoors is provided inside. A rack for wetsuits is outside the front with a hose which is handy. The house itself is very well appointed and tastefully decorated with no lack of seafaring themed ornaments and wall pictures. The kitchen fantastic for catering for large numbers and a very comfy lounge. All bathrooms are great with endless hot water for those after beach showers, even all going at once! The bed I was in did sag in the middle rather and gave me a backache for the first half an hour each morning but maybe my age had something to do with it. Matt the owner was so friendly and helpful that I donât want to upset him but felt that these comments might help those people thinking of booking up at Trevena Lodge. Oh and the view from sitting on the loo in my en-suite was the best I have ever experienced! We managed to avoid the crowds to avoid the Covid and altogether we had a super holiday and I had a memorable birthday!

The Orchard was a super place for our annual family get together.
Spacious and well equipped. The open plan kitchen / diner / lounge worked well, especially when the bi-fold doors were open, extending the space into the terrace / garden. The pictures are very accurate, but it is even nicer when you are there! The cream tea welcome gift was a lovely surprise, and Pauline and Nicola were a joy to deal with. Housekeeping deposit was returned very promptly. Crantock was a perfect village for us. A well stocked village shop (no longer Londis) meant we only had to pop across the road to stock up, and open 8am to 8pm every day, including Sunday and Bank Holiday! The Jam Jar is good for cakes, ice cream and evening pizzas, though note, no take away in peak season & no bookings taken. There are two character pubs, which serve food and take bookings, but book early. The beach is only a 10 minute walk and, as the modest car parks fill up quickly, the beach is not crowded. Big Green Surf School stocks a wide range of surf/paddle/body boards, though sadly the surf was not great the week we were there. Further afield you can walk to Newquay in under an hour, though check the tide times as the bridge is covered at high tide and the alternative is an extra mile walk upstream, or downstream to the ferry. L George Butchers, a five minute drive to St Newlyn East, is well worth the trip for their gorgeous barbeque meats, and they have a deli and sell bread, buns, croissants, pain au chocolate, etc. They normally visit Crantock on a Wednesday in their mobile shop, but they didnât whilst we were there. All in all, a great house in a great location! Would recommend to anyone wanting to stay in the area.

What a fabulous stay at The Orchard.
Absolutely everything we could've wished for and more. 6 adults, 1 two year old and a dog. My mom has mobility issues so groundfloor bedroom and bathroom was a must, only thing the bathroom was a bath with shower over and not a walk in shower, not a problem for my mom though. Lovely bedrooms, the pressure on shower in family bathroom wasn't very good, but they just used the one in the main bedroom, again not an issue for us. Kitchen was amazing with evertyhing you could possibly need. Only thing we found was the seating was a bit low for my mom, but we brought a chair in from outside and she was happy. The garden is fully enclosed and safe for both a toddler and a dog, and both would have tried to escape if they could!!! The village is perfect, shop close at hand, two pubs and a 15 min walk to the beach, what else could you ask for. had a great week, we will be back.

What a wonderful place Grandpa Dicksons is!
From the moment we pulled into the driveway and saw the spacious, beautiful and fully enclosed gardens we knew we were in for a lovely relaxing week with our 2 dogs. The location was perfect, so peaceful and felt away from it all, yet only down the road from Padstows bustling harbour with all its pubs, restaurants and shops! Once inside, Grandpa Dicksons was immediately warm and welcoming, it was spotlessly clean, beautifully presented and during our stay we were exceptionally comfortable and cosy, everything was of good quality and a high standard... Andy and Faye have thought of just about everything, right down to supplying bird seed to keep the feeders topped up, so that you can enjoy the many feathered guests who visit the garden...Oh, and the squirrel who taps on the lounge door when they are empty

Had an amazing time in Sundown. It has everything you will need for a beach break (although bring your own beach towels)! The way the house is designed shows off the beautiful scenery and it literally is 5 minutes walk to the beach. There is enough space to spread out, and the office nook was a lifesaver for my teenage son who considered it as his PC corner. The owners have really thought of everything; games for rainy days. We ate at the beach cafe and the bay view inn. The beach was perfect for us, I was so glad it was monitored by lifeguards, as those waves come fast and strong. We enjoyed kite flying on a windy days and body boarding when the weather permitted. The town of Bude is not even 10 minutes drive away. The neighbourhood was really friendly and we would go back there tomorrow.
