What our customers say about their holidays

Brilliant stay.
Remote on the beautiful moors. Gorgeous views and itâs just so quiet. We had the most glorious sleeps. No street lights and no road noise. It was idilic. The cottage is gorgeous too, just what you would expect. So cosy and warm, low ceilings and a fully furnished kitchen. Everything was provided, dishwasher tablets, tea towels and bath towels. We stayed over Christmas and Ali even decorated for us with a tree etc and generously left us Prosecco and a Christmas cake which was much appreciated. There is no WiFi as there is no cell signal and therefore only freeview on the tv which is hard when we are so used to internet at our fingertips. However, sometimes itâs great to be âcut offâ from it all. We enjoyed just relaxing and watching the many different species of birds that came into the garden and we walked often on the moors (go to Hannahâs meadows itâs stunning!) with our dogs. And drove to the nearest town Barnard castle which is a lovely historical town with some lovely shops, and of course the castle itself. (Sadly closed during our stay due to high winds) All in all we had a most relaxing quiet Christmas in a lovely cosy cottage. It even snowed one day which made the scenery even more beautiful. I even read two physical books which I never get the chance to at home. Thanks so much to our gracious hosts.

The cottage was as described, very welcoming and comfortable, very clean and tidy .
The kitchen has every thing we needed and more besides. The bedrooms were very comfortable and large enough for our needs. The bathroom was very good and clean. The only catch indie the cottage was that none of the bedroom doors could be closed as all the door handles and locks were either damaged or falling apart. The bathroom door was the only door that fastened properly but the did have a 2 inch gap at the bottom of the door, also the water pump in this room was extremely load and seemed to rattle throughout the house. The only other 2 things was the steep steps outside could do with a hand rail as they are very sloppy when wet or frozen. And the parking was bad as the neighbour had parked his van,car and motorbike outside so I had to park further down the road. I would still recommended the cottage as these things can be fixed , as for the location it was perfect , peaceful with very stunning views and central to all locations. We loved it and would go here again.

We stayed at Hury Lodge for a short break over New Year finding the property in an idealic isolated situation with fantastic views which suited us down to the ground.
The property itself was most quaint with everything we required apart from Wifi which was stated within the description, so no surprises there. It was clean and well maintained and I met the lady owner who was most pleasant. The only drawback is that the kitchen countertop area is sparce. The garden is fully enclosed and safe for my very energetic sprocker who also thoroughly enjoyed her stay. We cut our stay short solely for the fact that the weather conditions were appalling with continuous rain and due for -4 degrees for the morning of us travelling back home which, given the narrow hilly roads, we thought it best to leave earlier sadly. This said, we would love to return to this beautiful site in better weather. The scenery is gorgeous and can be seen from the dining table in the kitchen. The owners are on hand if needed but leave you to enjoy your stay otherwise. I can thoroughly recommend Hury Lodge and hope to return in the future.

My father and I had a lovely week at Hury Lodge and were very sad to leave.
The cottage was very clean, well equipped and comfortable. It is in a wonderful location with amazing views. The garden and surrounding area was full of birds and many an hour could be spent just sat in the garden or porch watching them. There are walks straight from the door on the very quiet lanes and footpaths. A walk up the lane above the cottage past Howgill Grange and Botany farms gives amazing 360 degree views. Hannah's meadow nature reserve is a pleasant walk along the road and back along the reservoir. We also enjoyed a walk along the Tees Railway path from Mickleton to Middleton in Teesdale too where we had a very good a lunch at Forrester's French restaurant and bar. Thank you to Ali and Chris for a wonderful week. We would definitely love to return.

The cottage is situated in a really lovely spot.
Great views of the countryside front and back. The cottage itself is pleasant and reasonably furnished. Parking is a real problem. Only two decent spaces on the road outside and both of these are used by the neighbouring cottage. You are dependant on the neighbourâs goodwill to get a space. Without it you are parking a little way away on the roadway. The book of instructions in the cottage desperately needs updating. Currently it refers to equipment (such as the TV) which is not in use. There is a good shower but visitors need to know to ignore the fact that it appears slow to empty; if left it does so in time and, despite appearances, does not flood. Owners were very helpful when we raised the various problems with them on our arrival.
