What our customers say about their holidays
Stuart - Verified booking
We booked Aislaby Hall for a 3 generation family holiday ages 22-83.
Aislaby itself was a good base for exploring the area, close to the park and ride into Whitby, plus the bonus of a great pub (The Forge) on the doorstep. The accommodation was very spacious and ideal for large groups. The kitchen was well equipped with the welcome milk, bread, eggs and biscuits a lovely touch. On the ground floor there is also a lovely dining room , a sitting room, a WC, a room set up as a childrens playroom plus a conservatory with pool table, darts board etc. There are stunning views over the valley so it is such a shame that 2 laurels completely blocked the view from the sitting room. The staircase is stunning with numerous eyes from the many portraits on the landing watching your every move, The 3 large bedrooms (2 en suite) and two twin rooms plus a family bathroom with separate WC offer plenty of space upstairs. Since booking the accommodation our parents mobility had declined so a couple of things were an issue so should be considered if planning a trip here. Firstly all the showers are over the bath which unfortunately was an issue for especially my Mum. Maybe if there are future upgrades at least one walk in shower would be beneficial. Secondly, and less of an issue, was some of the seating in the sitting room were very low to the ground which the parents would never be able to get up from. We got around this by moving a nice 2 seater settee from the unused childrens room into the sitting room. The conservatory games room provided alot of fun during the week. Yes the pool table has seen better days and there is a bit of a slope on it but we had a great time putting it to good use. Parking is on the drive in drive out driveway so be prepared for lots of car moving each morning if members of your party are leaving at different times. There are 2 areas of gravel that you were supposed to be able to park on but very large planters had been positioned on each preventing their use. Finally the rear gardens of the property are shared with an attached apartment. We only met the 2 elderly occupants shortly after arrival. Rather than a polite introduction we got a "we hope you are not going to be rowdy"! Obviously not familiar with Northern hospitality!

What a wonderful cottage and beautiful surroundings to accommodate our family for a week of family fun and adventure!
As regular visitors to Yorkshire I can happily say this is the best location we have stayed in and the kids pretty much summed up how homely and well equipped the cottage is by asking if we could live there! The cottage is full of personality and character and a lot of time and thought has been put in to making it a welcoming place to stay and providing everything for an enjoyable week. The wife was happy with nice kitchen appliances, the kids were never cleaner having enjoyed many a whirlpool bath and the living room was cosy and comfortable, and for once we werenât trawling charity shops for DVDs to keep us entertained in the evenings with the kids asleep as the TV is smart and we were able to sign in to our Netflix account and enjoy our usual series with the WiFi speeds more than capable of handling everyday life! There is also a large amount of dvds present alongside board games and books for those who donât have younger children who retire to bed early! We were blessed with lovely warm weather during our stay and even more blessed with how lovely and cool the cottage remained during our stay, no hot sleepless nights and donât be put off if you are planning a stay at a cooler time of year, the fireplace in the living room has a lovely large log burner for cosy nights! So much to do in the surrounding area but I wonât cover this as half the fun is exploring and finding your own way, whether it be family activities, lovely villages and towns for a wander and a cream tea, Castles and ruins, hiking the moors or days at the beach! Just be assured that a mountain of leaflets and maps are provided and despite this being our 6th or 7th visit over the years to Yorkshire we still always find new places to explore! Thank you for a wonderful stay and we will most definitely be back!

We loved Buck Place and stay every year.
Itâs in a lovely area, with great dog friendly beaches and pubs. The on-site pub has had some negative reviews, but we gave it another try and was surprisingly pleased, best itâs been since pre Covid. Itâs a Shame the on-site pizza place is never open, we wish it would go back to a cafe. The on-site shop has everything you need at reasonable prices. We didnât have a free swim or use the gym this time. The cottage is a great place to kick back and relax, which is what this week was all about. The cottage is so lovely, comfortable and clean, itâs a great place to rewind and chill out. Not sure why the sofa was making mechanical groaning noises, but it still seemed comfortable!!! Maybe itâs a sofa bed? It wasnât really BBQ weather so we didnât use it on this occasion. The patio table and chairs are wooden and the chairs arenât the most comfortable for relaxing on, they probably need an upgrade(although perfectly stable- just uncomfortable). So we sat several times reading in the master bedroom on two lovely clear plastic chairs with the Juliet Balcony doors open soaking up the sunshine and enjoying the breeze. There was a little welcome pack, with tea, coffee, milk and biscuits and a tennis ball for the dog, those are the simple things that make you smile when you arrive so another big thank you to Sharon and Pete. Weâll be booking again.

Can't fault the home or the location at all, the cottage was very nice to stay in for the week.
There was lots of space for all 6 of us to comfortably enjoy the space, relax in the evening together after a long walk and to all eat together. The kitchen was well stocked and I appreciated the leaflets and infomation that was waiting for us along with the welcome basket. The bathrooms and all areas were lovely and clean and the house felt cosy. The location of the property also meant you really don't have to drive far to get to beaches, walks and all the areas we wanted to visit which made the holiday much more enjoyable. However, what let it down for us was that we were unaware it was a shared garden and that the neighbour is afraid of dogs. We spoke with the neighbour and had an agreement but meant we didn't use the garden. We would have preferred to have allowed our dog to have enjoyed the space freely with us. Also, we were charged for additional cleaning services after, which I feel could have been included in the cost as standard. Given this house is a bargain for what you get I wouldn't have minded and would have saved hassle and being left a sour taste in the mouth after such a good holiday. I suspect the latter, is more to do with how Sykes opperates so personally wont be using them again but would recommend the property itself.

Lovely decorated and comfortable challet .
Spacious and nice amount of storage. Beautiful decorated outside . Would of liked it more clear that it didn't have stove and oven to cook with and that the fridge isn't large enough to store much and that it doesn't have a freezer When I recieved an email of suggested itinerary list it mentioned bringing oven gloves and dishwasher tablets gave me the impression cooking facilities were avaliable Myself and my husband have severe food allergy we cook for ourselves more than eat out. Was very grateful for the takeaway suggestions that helped alot we collected an Indian takeaway in Maldon delicious. Having a bath and shower avaliable was perfect and thank you for providing hand soap, washing up liquid, toilet rolls J cloths and washing up liquid and cutlery plates bowls . The holiday park is very well located with having lots of lovely places near by attractrions ,farmshops and local village Maldon been 20 minute drive away with lovely shops and a really nice tea room . We would love to stay again knowing what we know we can be more prepared. Lovely location and place would stay again. Rebecca Garrigle
