What our customers say about their holidays
Stephanie - Verified booking
The cottage is located in a beautiful peaceful setting, surrounded by nature but also close enough to lots of local days out and activities for all the family.
The children loved watching the rabbits from the window and it is in an ideal spot for walking, running and cycling. The property provides almost everything you need for your holiday and the beds were really comfortable but there were just a few small improvements which would take it from good to excellent. When we arrived, there was less than half a toilet roll in the cottage, which for a property that can sleep 6 and isn't close to a shop, isn't really suitable. Thankfully we had read some other reviews which mentioned this and had taken some with us. There's a washing machine, but no powder or tablets, and a dishwasher which also had no tablets, and providing these little extras would make such a difference. We also found the bathroom extractor fan wasn't working, the light above the cooker and under counter lights weren't working, and throughout the stay there was a faint smell of drains, which we assume is from the septic tank. Whilst these things wouldn't prevent us from staying again, they would be welcome improvements that would make the property even more welcoming.

The cottage was lovely.
Great layout and position, fab views all round and spectacular sunrises and sunsets. It was warm and comfortable and just what we needed this time. There are a few small signs of wear and tear which are to be expected and the housekeeper is aware of these seeming to be on the case for remedying. Nothing that diminished our enjoyment. The surrounding area is lovely. Our walk to Hamsterley and back was a great day out. Wildlife fantastic - lots of grouse and pheasants, rabbits, a fox and moles all seen in some capacity. The locals at Hamsterley advised of more rarer wildlife including adders, toads and a specific mouse! Some farming practices in the area seemed strange to us city folk but when googled made a little more sense. Time without WiFi was refreshing with tree climbing, sword(stick) fighting, twister and monopoly entertaining the kids (and adults) well. A bird feeder would be a fab addition for the nature fans. We found bird seed under the sink and a chaffinch and wren joined us when we put some out. Totally recommend this cottage for a rest and escape.

We were disappointed with our stay here.
The cottage is very tiny. There is a folding dining table & chairs provided but really no space to put it. The double bedroom has limited space to walk by the window side & at the bed & at the bottom of the bed. The kitchen window overlooks a well planned seated garden which you discover is next doors. When you open the kitchen door the small sloping garden that greets you is overlooked by the other neighbours kitchen window, there wasn't any where to sit out at the rear. To the front is a small patio area with seating & a table but no lawn as that is next doors! However, the cottage is extremely well thought out & been designed to very high standards. Using every possible bit of space to its advantage. You have to appreciate the quirky character of it & it is in the most wonderful area with the sounds skylarks, curlews & the local peacocks.

This was a very easy experience.
The photos were accurate. Once booked the host contacted me which was a nice touch. A warm welcome was given by the lovely scones with milk and tea and coffee and eggs being provided. I also enjoyed the lovely posy of fresh flowers. The property was lovely, great log burner and one of the comfiest sofas I've ever sat on! The bedroom was a good size and the bed was also very comfortable. A few steps away from the cottage the lovely small town of Stanhope which had a healthy buzz about it and a few nice wee shops and places to eat and drink. Everything had been thought of when equipping this cottage and I appreciated it a lot. I would recommend to anyone thinking of going to this area and thank you to my host, Mark, good job! :-)

This is a great cottage situated in the centre of Stanhope (but away from the main road), only minutes from the excellent selection of shops and pubs.
There are lots of great walks right from the doorstep, including the excellent Ashes Quarry just a couple of minutes walk away. The cottage is well maintained and nicely decorated. On entering, there is a small hallway, with space to hang coats. The large lounge was comfortable, with a nice big sofa and good sized TV. The kitchen had everything I needed, including things like teabags, sugar, salt & pepper etc. The main bedroom was nicely furnished, with a good bed and sufficient storage space. The bathroom had a bath tub (which is a big plus for me), the only drawback being the rather small wash basin, which I found a little awkward to use. I very much enjoyed staying here, and would certainly return.
