What our customers say about their holidays

Pros: The property is well-maintained, beautiful, and has amenities in abundance.
Parking is not a problem, either. The kitchen is very well-equipped and clean. The host very kindly provided shampoo, conditioner and snacks. Local cafes, chippies, beaches and hikes are quite accessible from the property (obviously, you need a car.) Cons: The property was very cold. The first one or two days, we could control the temperature, however the thermostat then locked itself and could not be adjusted. We contacted the owner (via Sykes) and found out the property owner could control the temperature remotely, which could not be set beyond 25°C because the boiler was faulty. We requested the temperature be set as high as possible, to which it was placed at 22°C, which was still too cold. We would have benefited from the temperature being set at the maximum 25°C. We thought of using the available fireplace to add extra warmth. However, the wood didn't light up despite our numerous attempts. We visited the local supermarket to purchase wool wood to help the fire ignite, yet every attempt to light the fire was short-lived. By the time we finished attempting various DIY solutions (plus doing our sightseeing), our stay came to an end, so we didn't get the chance to contact the property owner a second time regarding the central heating/fireplace. Another issue is that the hot and cold water regulation on the shower is very temperamental so be prepared to fiddle with the taps for a good amount of time. There was no shower gel/body wash, so make sure to get your own. At the time of leaving, we were asked to strip used bedsheets and place them in the bathtub - not sure if this is the customary request in holiday stays? Lastly, the space is a bit small, so avoid getting large amounts of luggage. This isn't really a disadvantage, but worth noting that big luggage isn't suitable for the property. Overall verdict: Overall, I would recommend the property to others because the property is value for money. Although the 'negative' paragraph is longer, it really was just the temperature. My wife is thalassemic and from the Middle East, which means she feels colder than the average person. Maybe on hot summer days, temperature wouldn't have been an issue. But on cooler days (15°C or less), the home would feel draughty to anyone (health condition or not, as even I felt cold.) The property was clean overall, but there was dust and cobwebs in some corners. Once the issue with the temperature is fixed, I'd say the property is value for money.

Ty Pren is located down a lovely winding country lane on a quiet farm.
The lodges are set within an idyllic location away from noise with amazing country, sea views. At night you can see the lighthouse lit up, with the beam glancing across the lodge, a truly amazing sight. The small cluster of lodges are suitably distanced from one another, which allows you to have the privacy you need. With Two cars, Four guests and a Four legged companion there was more than enough space for everyone. The Lodge was inviting from the moment we opened the door, a bright, spacious layout which surprised us. Upon entering the main lounge, we found a bottle of wine and a welsh cake which was most appreciated after a long journey. The owners also supplied tea, milk and sugar to get us started, with a well equipped kitchen and a washing machine and tumble dryer if needed. There are local shops just a short drive down the road which is suitably stocked or there is a Tesco supermarket about 30 minutes away. The area surrounding the lodges is a country, coastal walkers dream. A beautiful Ten minute walk over the fields brings you down to Porthgain Harbour, you will be pleasantly surprised by how friendly everyone around the harbour is. The Sloop Inn is a great place to eat and have a nice drink to rest awhile and enjoy the scenery. The Shed is a sea food restaurant which has a wide range of food to suit all tastes, you will not be disappointed. There is boutique shops with artworks and the seaside nik naks for those wanting to take home a souvenir, with a free public toilet and car parking with Two designated charging points for electric vehicles. The views, atmosphere, coastal walks, great food and drink will make you want to stay longer next time. Thanks for a great stay and we hope to rebook sometime in the future.

The property is lovely and really nice.
Before arriving we had a damage and cleaning information pack with a hot tub disclaimer. The information pack was a little worrying as the cost of cleaning charges for pet hair and I had 2 with me. When we got to the property it was simple instruction from the email to access the property but no greeting on arrival. When we were putting food away in the freezer there was a smashed bottle which had not been cleaned up, there were a pack of Pringles on the cabinet that were out of date from July and also a plastic bottle left under the one sofa, this I was disappointed with due to the emails received about the cleaning charges. The hot tub we read through and said itâs cleaned every time someone leave and will be switched on and heated up ready. On the first night we never bothered with the hot tub due to the rain and darkness. We then went to look around 10:00 on the second day and the hot tub was cold and nothing would work it was saying pool too warm. I kept checking this by the hour and the water was cold with no change. I went to reception which was not open, I range the contact number provided on email and booklet in the love and no answer I also emailed the admin team and again no answer. I was unable to use the hot tub all weekend and this I am unhappy about as you pay extra to have a hot tub and we were unable to use. On the day of leaving the request to strip the beds and bag the sheets and towels ready for cleaners to collect was done before leaving. The hot tub had started to heat up but this was the day we were leaving. I feel we could have had more assistance to get this hot tub working and the general cleanliness wasnât to the standard of what it seems before you attend due to the items we found, but the email makes you slightly worry before attending and taking your dogs as chargers and explained for different cleaning.

We have stayed at Ty Pren previously and we were not disappointed with our return visit.
There is a bumpy, potholed dirt track down from the farm to the lodges so a suitable vechile is required. I wouldn't arrive in a lowered vechile but you dont need a monster truck either. I drive a ford focus and we made it up and down there with no issues. Nothing has changed, apart from the weather. Whether sunny or rainy it's always a great time here away from it all. The views are still amazing and it is so peacefully quiet, its like being away from everything. You can walk down to Porthgain, cutting through the fields is quicker and going over the bridge with the water running underneath is so tranquil. The Sloop Inn is a great pub with amazing food, drinks and great staff, well worth a visit. The coastal walks are breathtaking, miles of views you will always remember. The blue lagoon is just a 5 minute drive away, just put Abereiddy Beach in the satnav/maps and it will take you there. There is parking on uneven, stoney ground so be aware of this before going. There is a charge of around £5 which is collected by someone before you park, i would advise to have the change to hand. They also provide public toilets which are free to use, no 40p required here. I would highly recommend a visit here. You can also walk from Porthgain to the Blue Lagoon, for those able to do so. Saint David's is also close by, amazing cathedral, shops, pubs, cafes all you could need for a great day out. To sum up, the lodge itself is worth the visit. The scenery and location is just an added bonus, I will most certainly be returning again.

We had a lovely week away, the property is designed for 2 adults and 2 children as the second room has bunk beds.
As we were 3 adults, it would have been nice to have an option or removing the top bunk bed prior to our visit (as we could see it could be removed) this really would be our only recommendation as the property was a very high standard especially the cleanliness (spotless) it was so nice to have a property that I didnât feel the need to clean before we could use it! The garden was safe for our dog, all the rooms have doors (that shut properly) so we could safely let our dog use the space, in the knowledge that she only had access to the rooms we wanted. Being a dog owner I have been in many propertyâs where the furniture and furnishings are of a basic standard (just incase the dog effects them) this was not the case here- lovely bedding from marks and Spencer, comfortable sofa and pillows and no background smell of the previous dog! We had a small issue with water (it had stopped due to a bust main nearby) when we contacted the host they were quick to answer and advised and it was fixed rather quickly. We would definitely stay again- thanks for a great holiday
