What our customers say about their holidays
Terry - Verified booking
Lovely cottage in beautiful surroundings and enjoyed a fabulous holiday in spite of unpleasant experience with the owner.
Unfortunately we were let down by the owner who'd promised to supply us with kindling for the wood burner which they mention in their advertisement. (We'd only had enough for the first evening we were there and the second evening there was none left and we couldn't make a fire. The owner called us to let us know that she was getting her cleaner to deliver some the next day). Unfortunately we returned exhausted from an 8 mile hike that evening looking forward to making a lovely fire to find that the kindling hadn't been delivered. We called the owner to find out what had happened. Her explanation was that her cleaner had 'let her down' and the only thing she could suggest was that we drive out to a place called Threshfield around 5 miles away and buy some kindling ourselves! This was around 7.30 in the evening! When we pointed out that we'd travelled from Suffolk to stay there she said in quite a haughty voice that she'd try and ring the cleaner again and get him to deliver some the next day. Thankfully when we returned from another long walk the next day the kindling had been delivered. That evening the owner called us to make sure the kindling had been delivered and apologised for letting us down - which we greatly appreciated. The owner then asked us if everything else was alright. - As it happened that morning we'd tried to use the only can opener provided which unfortunately was useless and I'd nicked my hand on the tin trying to use it. - So in answer to her question we apologised for perhaps sounding 'picky' but mentioned the can opener. To which she suggested we go next door to the neighbour and borrow theirs!! When we said that we didn't really want to do that - she again replied in an extremely haughty tone of voice: 'Oh well I'm sorry you're having such a dreadful time' - and PUT THE PHONE DOWN ON US!! Really? This unhelpful and quite frankly - hostile attitude from someone who has decided to provide a holiday facility to people we feel is totally unacceptable - especially when their holiday makers have travelled so far to stay and paid handsomely for the privelege. It's a shame about the owner's attitude because we would potentially have re-booked here but suffice to say we'll be staying somewhere else next time.

The perfect place to escape from everyday life!
I knew from photos, that it was going to be picturesque but even then the surroundings were so much more magnificent than I expected. From the drive through the Dales, down the track to Grimwith Houses, looking out of any window of the property, walking/running around the reservoir route or driving to any other the little picturesque villages nearby. Its truly breathtaking. The listing doesn't tell you just how peaceful and tranquil the location is, or how many flocks of geese fly over, or the waterfalls and wildlife around the reservoir or even how close you get to the water just on the rocks by the side of the house- skimming stones available too. The house is beautiful and upon arrival, seemed to never end. It's a cosy place to go and enjoy doing absolutely nothing. The hottub is an absolute bonus and our children played for hours in it. The copper bath is an added touch of luxury. Jerry is a lovely bloke and happy to talk through the history of the three properties on site, and help with anything else. I could have happily stayed in the secluded bubble for much longer. Thank you Jerry. We will return!

We stayed in this gorgeous Cottage the first week of December.
The house is beautiful, clean and decorated to the highest standard. Itâs warm, cosy and spacious. We had the best time here at Skyfell - it has everything you need and more and the welcome basket full of goodies was received with thanks. The views and walks around the reservoir are stunning and there was so much wildlife in the area ( owls, pheasants, grouse ). Gerry the maintenance guy is around if you have any questions about the local area or history on the property - he tops up your wood for the fire burners and keeps the hot tub burning if required. A genuine nice guy who's happy to help with any requests- a real asset the properties. Thereâs no noise or light pollution at Skyfell , and if youâre looking for a cottage where you can fully relax and enjoy quality time as a family - this is the perfect place. We canât wait to go back. The highest of recommendations!

Itâs our 2nd stay here in Skyfell, and it doesnât disappoint.
The house is very clean, well equipped and furnished to a high standard, everything has been thought of and more. The beds are super comfy and the welcome basket is always very much appreciated. Skyfell sits on the edge of Grimwith reservoir and thereâs no noise or light pollution in this area. It was a perfect setting for our Border Collie who is nervous with fireworks over the bonfire period. Jerry the caretaker is on hand if you need anything and makes sure you have plenty of supplyâs to keep the fires burning inside, and for the Swedish hot tub. We absolutely love our stays here and are always somber on leaving - we know we will be back next year and already look forward to our next visit. If you want a peaceful retreat with plenty of walks and wildlife, this is the place to be. Our highest recommendation!
