Dog Friendly Cottages In Brassington

Nestled just outside the Peak District National Park, Brassington is a picturesque village. This quiet rural spot is an idyllic place to enjoy a cottage holiday. Surrounded by beautiful countryside, you're sure to return home rejuvenated.

Brassington was once important to the mining industry, and remnants of this can be found in the local area. This spot has been largely untouched by the march of time; making it the ideal place if you want to detox from modern life for a week. There are plenty of opportunities for walking and cycling in and around Brassington, and there are even watersports on offer nearby too. Visitors can explore the Peak District which is only a short drive away and plenty to explore in neighbouring Yorkshire and Derbyshire.

What our customers say about their holidays

    Christmas 2024 - Two adults, 4yo and a dog.

This was our first time going away over Christmas and we absolutely loved it. The cottage is in the perfect, quiet location in the dales with a small brook running alongside it. Waking up Christmas morning to that sound and overlooking tranquil fields was idyllic to say the least. Property was great - kitchen and lounge were good size for us and has everything you need for a base in the Peaks. Owners even had a real Christmas tree up for us which was a lovely touch. Made it magical for our daughter. Two bedrooms and bathroom upstairs were very comfortable. You will get a great sleep here and very hot bath. Door to property is cold and it took a day or so to get the heating right, but the radiators have thermostatic valves so after a couple of adjustments it was perfect. Recommend changing upstairs radiators to 3 and having thermostat in the kitchen set to 19 during the day. Location wise it is excellent - you are in a very quiet area with a pretty much unknown dale walk right on the doorstep, but then it's just 15 mins drive to Bakewell and only 30 mins to Chatsworth. Thank you to the owners for an excellent place to have our Christmas stay. We already looked into coming back in January for a couple of days

    A review of two halves.

The Love Nest is an ample sized 2 person property on a complex of other holiday lets. The maintenance guy, is super friendly and an asset to the complex without a doubt. The Love Nest is quirky inside, but this has overshone practicality. There are no internal doors, so privacy is not an option. The main room housing the bed and lounge area leads straight into the bathroom without a door, which means at night you are woken with the bathroom light being on should you need to use the toilet. The toilet doesn’t have a door either so you will “hear” your partner in there as no soundproofing, the curtain to draw across is un hygienic , you pull across to give a little modesty but having using the toilet means you touch the curtain before washing your hands after. Not hygienic at all. The bath is modern and sleek but super slippy, be careful, I slipped and found it un relaxing at all. For safety I would provide an anti slip mat, I’m not old and found this a hazard. We used the swimming pool and games room daily, a great addition to the complex, but does need some tlc. Overall, I would return but some adjustments to Love Nest are needed. I can’t comment on the other properties, but they looked nice.

The Love Nest is a nice idea, but not very well executed.

While aesthetically pleasant, it lacks basic amenities (no firewood/kindling for the fire, no sponges or cloths for the sink etc) and isn't particularly practical. If you need to use the bathroom at night, you should take a torch because the lights will blast straight into the bedroom unobstructed as there is no door (just a cast-iron gate), and the toilet is divided by a curtain with no light of its own. The bathtub itself is rather dangerous without a bathmat too; you can realistically only get one person in the middle over the plug as laying back is essentially impossible. The outdoor lights were on for the whole night, and while I will credit the owners for sorting that out upon notification, it left us sleepless the next day. Negatives aside, the owners were very apologetic for our complaints and wanted to offer other options for accommodation, but we cut our stay short on the first night of four. I can speak for the sincerity of the owners, and hope they venture to refine this property.

Enjoyed our stay at the cottage.

Facilities fine. A few minor issues on maintenance I would draw the owner’s attention to: Several of the radiators didn’t get warm. They may need bleeding. Additional plug in heaters enabled us to keep warm. The shower waste pipe didn’t drain as fast as it should and the shower tray threatened to overflow so had to keep turning the shower off. The frying pan didn’t have a flat base which meant it wasn’t very compatible with the induction hob. We struggled with the key safe on arrival. Rang Sykes but response was poor. Repeated efforts with the keysafe revealed we weren’t pressing both buttons, so our own error. On a previous booking, I had a problem I wished to discuss. When I rang Sykes number the response was quick, but when it was established that this was not an enquiry about a new booking I was diverted to another number. After 45 minutes I gave up. Eventually I succeeded in contacting the owners directly.

We had a lovely New Years break at this cottage.

On arrival it was decorated with lights, a tree and other festive items which was a lovely touch. Cottage is well equipped with dishwasher, washing machine and a very well equipped kitchen a good size fridge freezer too. Owners have provided lots of local information and maps for visitors to look at to plan their stays. Longnor is a lovely village and lots of surrounding things to do, we were treated to seeing the Northern Lights on new years day too. A previous review has mentioned parking being tricky, but we had a discovery car and managed to fit that into the space outside, was tight but we did it, there's also parking available further down the street if people do worry. We are hoping we can return soon, was a lovely stay , we didn't want to return home.
