What our customers say about their holidays
Amanda - Verified booking
The property is well placed to enjoy the town and all amenities of Dartmouth.
It is very central and 10min walk to centre. Although there is no parking space at the property, a permit for one vehicle is provided to park in town. The house is very stylishly decorated, modern and up to date decor. Lots of storage, very comfortable beds and well fitted kitchen. The bathroom and shower room are lovely with good water pressure in both. There is so much to do in Dartmouth itself, for two days we didn't use the car! We walked to Dartmouth Castle and Castle cove. We were lucky to see a dolphin in the cove. There is a lovely cafe next to the castle. We caught a small ferry/water taxi back, make sure you take cash to pay the ferry man. On another day we crossed the river and caught the steam train to Paignton and back for a cruise on the river Dart. 3 trips to the beach - Bantham beach for body boarding and Bigbury to catch sea tractor to Burgh Island and enjoy crab sandwich at Pilchard Inn. Another beach we enjoyed is Blackpool Sands (not sandy) a sheltered bay with good swimming. Bigbury and Bantham beaches are sandy. There is an abundance of places to eat in Dartmouth and our favourites, Alf Resco for brunch, Floating Bridge and Rockfish for dinner. There is a great butcher just next to the market place at the end of the road when you walk into town. Also a French bakery next to the market, down one of the narrow lanes. We didn't have time to take a ferry trip to Dittisham where we planned crabbing on the pontoon, we also wanted to go paddle boarding but hopefully do them next time. Very enjoyable and Hillside is the perfect place to stay.

The property itself is fantastic.
A very modern barn conversion in a lovely location. Beds were very comfortable although I think an option for a harder pillow is necessary for those with that preference. There was no way of cleaning the toilets during our stay. On arrival, the property seemed unclean, lots of dust and cobwebs in easily accessible areas. There was dirty washing in the dishwasher, presumably from previous guests. Windows werenât very clean at all. Pool table was slanted despite this being a major selling point for the property, so a bit disappointed with that although I did not stop us from using it each night. Lighting wasnât great above the table and sometimes it was hard to see which ball was which colour (mainly when playing snooker). Hot tub is great. Although, with it being wood fired it takes time to heat up. This is not always possible with days out etc and by the time it has heated, it would be pushing well into the night. I know this is not the case for everybody. Have to say that the maintenance team were great as there were a couple of issues during our stay which were fixed straight away. Communication with them via e-mail was quick and easy. Lots of flies at the property which is understandable as it is on a working farm. The fly spray provided did not quite cut it unfortunately. I think this needs looking at (if possible). I hope this feedback helps in the future. Thanks again for our stay :)

Lovely, warm and cosy period cottage with traditional features but all modern conveniences, including Nespresso coffee machine.
Lovely quality crockery, cutlery etc and sharp kitchen knives, which are so often lacking. Comfortable bed. It was just two of us so we used the first floor bedroom and generously sized shower room, but there was another double and a single room on the second floor with a bathroom with a bath. Bed linen was good quality. Good access to internet and Smart TV apps and lovely, easy to use, gas fire to take the chill off when necessary. Appreciated the bottle of bubbly and initial supply of milk, tea bags, coffee capsules, dishwasher tablets and wash capsules (a second kitchen bin liner would have been useful). Like others we found the car park space tight, especially when the neighbouring space is occupied. My hatchback is described as compact by its manufacturer but at most it's small mid-sized, but it was a squeeze and you have to reverse in or you can't get out of the car. If we had been more than two plus a small dog and driven a larger car we wouldn't have been able to use the space. The ground floor area of the cottage is lovely, but again, we were only two and it would have been tight for space with 4 adults. Very easy walking distance of everything in town. We particularly liked the Dart Cafe as the dog was warmly welcomed. We drove to Brixham via the lower ferry, and went to Kingswear as foot passengers to ride the steam train and back. Easy access to the South Coast Path on a good day too.

The property is very modern, well appointed and we had ample space for our stay.
Its location near to the waterfront is good and the provision of a garage is extremely useful. Unfortunately, there were several times that the garage was blocked by the angling club and upholstery shop. Whilst we were able to manuever our vehicle into the garage or get the offending vehicle moved it was off putting, especially when arriving back late and having to negotiate the gap with an inch to spare. The businesses opposite werenât the only annoying neighbours. The seagulls were extremely loud, particularly in the top floor bedroom which has a velux window that they regularly marched across. It led for most nights being disturbed in the early hours. Those negatives aside, this property is really well equipped and should be considered for its location alone. A couple of improvements I would suggest are the provision of some basic cleaning products like bleach and anti-bac (this is possibly the first Iâve stayed in that didnât have these) and frosting on the bathroom windows facing the street, which otherwise require blinds down and lights on (the rear bathroom is frosted). I would consider a future stay and recommend to others.

This is our second visit to Harbour Cottage so you can tell we really like it.
Just a couple of observations this time. The sink in the bathroom at the top of the house was not draining at all. I unscrewed the plug and found it was fully clogged with hair. An unpleasant job I had to do on day one! Kitchen well stocked but I would add a pair of tongs to the equipment. The heating was very complicated to understand and no matter what we did we ended up having to open windows whilst the heating was on (not very eco friendly) ..perhaps a step by step "idiots guide" would help as the booklet was very difficult to follow. The location of the property is second to none and having off street parking a real bonus in Dartmouth. The welcome cleaning pack was an added bonus but could we suggest more than one black sack be incuded especially as the booklet in the house asked that all bedding and towels are placed in black sacks on departure and all rubbish should be in black bags before being placed in the seagull proof bags. However these are small observations in an otherwise excellent house.
