What our customers say about their holidays

The house is really lovely, particularly the upstairs, the bedrooms and bathrooms. However: • the bifold door key to the ‘garden’ was already broken on our arrival - after phone calls and emails no replacement was given (despite the fact that there is a key cutting business in Seahouses) • The 3 outside bins and two black sacks of rubbish on top of the boiler outside the back door (to the enjoyment of visiting seagulls) had not been emptied before our arrival • The water in the hot tap of the second shower was very hot but to cool it down using the cold tap meant even hotter water - scalding hot at times! • only one TV remote control upstairs so it has to be shared between the two bedrooms • only one loo roll provided in each of the loos (for four people for four days!) • the parking situation is a free for all. All the houses, including No 12, have No Parking notices on their outside walls but the street is an unadopted road, not private, and the signs are generally ignored!

False advertisement by the host!! Advert said travel cot was available, I also checked with host 3 days prior to check in date to confirm there was a travel cot - which they confirmed there was. Arrived at the property could not find the travel cot spoke to host company on the phone who said they would sort it out and contact house keeping. Advisor on the phone lied to me and said a cot was located and will be sorted. After waiting a while longer and no further update I contacted them again to assure me that they had located one. 15 minutes after this phone call the advisor told me they had in fact not found a cot and that we would not be receiving one throughout our stay. This was 6pm they told us this my 8 month old baby had to stay in our double bed with my wife whilst I slept on the sofa downstairs which wasn’t a problem the problem was my wife not sleeping most of the night in case our baby fell off the bed. The next day I had to drive over 40 miles to an Argos to buy a cot.

This was our second visit to this gorgeous house. We were keen to return as we had a fabulous stay in August this year. Unfortunately when we arrived on the Friday evening at 7pm there was no heating on and the temperature inside the house was 9 degrees. We tried to turn the heating on to no avail. We then rang Host and Stay to inform them and ask for advice. We left two answer phone messages for them however we received no call back at all. We managed to get the heating on after an hour however it was too cold for us to stay in the house so we had to go out to a restaurant to get warm. After leaving the heating on all night it was still only 15 degrees on the Saturday morning and it took til 5pm that day for the house to warm up to a comfortable 18 degrees. We feel that it is unacceptable that the heating was not on for our arrival and this spoiled our enjoyment of our weekend away in this lovely house. (Looking at the Smart Meter the heating had not been on all week )

We had no hot water for the majority of the stay. We couldn’t check in until after 4pm on the Saturday and had to check out by 10am on the Monday. We FINALLY got some hot water at around 8pm the night before we checked out. I spent most of my weekend phoning & emailing and just being told to find the boiler in the house and reset it myself!! I repeatedly told them there was NO boiler in the house, only a control switch and that it was flashing a fault!! No-one from Stay phoned me back apart from on the last occasion after I had to lose my temper (which I was annoyed about too as it was my birthday that day!). The final insult is that AirB&B don’t look at the length of stay just how many nights were impacted (not days). We paid £617 for 2 nights (42hours) and we’re only given £83 back as a refund. I have waited nearly 2 weeks before writing this review as I feel it is I my fair to give someone the chance to make it right and they have not bothered. Beware!!!!

The house is well placed for easy walking to the village centre. Beds are comfortable and the house is well presented. Parking was ok for us but is tight! There were only 3 mugs on arrival so we had to buy another one. The sofa is comfy but cream and a bit discoloured. On our second day we tried to have showers but had no hot water or heating and there was an error code displaying. We contacted Home and Stay and had several dealings during the day but finally after various reassurances and many phone calls they told us that the boiler had run out of oil and they could not get it sorted. We had taken my elderly in laws away for a respite break as my father in law has terminal cancer and my mother in law is his main carer. We were offered no other option other than to stay without hot water or heating. We were very disappointed - and had to leave. Such a shame as we were enjoying our stay. Air BnB were way more helpful and have arranged recompense.
