What our customers say about their holidays
Fiona - Verified booking
Very disappointed in what is my very last holiday due to health.
We were impressed with the house when we got there but not the horrible yard. Unfortunately things started to go wrong the first night. The back door handle sheared of when we went to lock the door. I reported this immediately to Sykes. The next morning the en suite toilet started pouring water and would not stop. We reported this and weâre offered a full refund on the Monday or we were told the repairs would be done that day. We stayed out with our elderly dog until 10:15 pm to allow the repairs to be done and hopefully get on with our holiday and be able to use the en suite bedroom and the yard for the dog and any washing. We came back and neither of the jobs had been fixed. I contacted Sykes again and was told they would contact the owner again and someone would ring us in the morning as it was getting late. We then had to phone Sykes again and were told because we stayed that night we could only have half of our money back. We only stayed that day as we were told the repairs would definitely be done. I can believe one part might not have turned up but not both. If they had said the repairs will definitely not be done we would have left immediately. We stayed 3 nights constantly chasing these repairs not what you want on your holidays. On another note. The socket by the kettle did not work and one of the windows in the front bedroom seals were broken and the window was all misted up. We also reported this. One last thing if you donât like cats this is not the cottage for you. The cat deterrent at the front door emits a loud noise that pierces your ears but does not seem to bother all the cats

The cottage location was idyllic and perfect as a base for dog walking.
We found it very clean and the wine and biscuits awaiting us on arrival were a very welcome and enjoyable surprise. Appreciated also was the ample supply of logs and coal for the fire, though kindling was sparse (with no backup). And while the owners welcomed âtwo well behaved dogsâ and we received strict rules on dogs in the cottage the owners contacted us while on holiday as they were surprised to see we had dogs (just two). Sykes apparently didnât tell them we were bringing dogs but did they need to? The owners welcomed two well behaved dogs⦠apparently. Something of concern was a slippery shower floor and the shower lacked anywhere to put soap, shampoo etc. Lacking in the bedroom was a clock or radio though I appreciate this may not be important for many. I think a shame was nondescript supermarket art on the walls rather that any beautiful scenes of the dales and the local pub was a huge let down. It did not allow dogs and was crying out for a new owner. The hideous electric âwood burnerâ just one of many likely reasons why the pub was all but empty every night (not representative of the area). There is the CB Inn a ten minute walk from the cottage but this was a restaurant that sold drinks rather than a pub that served food. They did though welcome dogs and had a real fire (and unlike the Red Lion, was busy). In short the cottage was okay (for two), the location was great and the local pub utterly dismal. Beware also, in a very small village like this, you might get the feeling you are being spied on.

Great house, great location and great communication from the owners.
The house has plenty of room, is very well equipped and even though there is no specific parking spot it really wasn't an issue to find a space close by and the parking scratch cards are great - much appreciated, as was the welcome pack! The beds, pillows and mattresses are super comfortable and clean. The bedding and towels spotless! My only (hopefully constructive) comment would be that although the bedrooms and living room were very clean, the kitchen and bathroom were not as good. There was black mould in the washer drawer and in the shower cubicle, and a build up of hard water staining on the bathroom taps - all easy to rectify. The fridge needed to be wiped out before we used it and there was dirty fluff stuck to the bottom of the kitchen table benches when we pulled them out to use. None of this spoiled our stay and I would highly recommend this property. It's really close to the main high street and all the shops, you're spoilt for choice which bay to walk to as both are equally as close and it's close to all the road links to travel out of Scarborough. Thanks for making our week in Scarborough so enjoyable!

We have just returned from the most wonderful stay at Bay View Cottage near Robin Hoodâs Bay.
The setting is absolutely beautiful and the views are just incredible! The cottage is cosy, homely and very well equipped. It was also immaculately clean. There was always plenty of hot water available and the heating worked very efficiently. The kitchen has all the things you need to prepare and cook. The children also loved the climbing frame and slide in the lovely garden area behind the properties. The courtyard is very pretty and full of sun in the morning. It is also very spacious for parking cars and unloading luggage straight in through the kitchen door. There was no lugging of heavy items or boxes for any distance! The gorgeous beaches and pretty villages are a short drive from the cottage, though walkable for those who perhaps want to do so with dogs and without little ones. Our dog also felt very at home! Aldi and Sainsburyâs are an easy ten minute drive away. We absolutely loved our stay here and we will be back to enjoy more of the beautiful Yorkshire coast. Thank you so much to June and Alan for a fantastic holiday.

The cottage was absolutely perfect.
In the centre of Whitby so within walking distance to all the attractions, very close to shops, and a 4 minute walk from a long stay car park. The cottage itself was clean, excellent facilities and had all amenities you could ask for. There were 4 adults and 2 dogs, and the cottage fit us all in fine. Beds were comfy, bathrooms were clean and kitchen had all the appliances you could need. I would highly recommend this cottage to anybody! Only negative-Was a little hard to find the property so maybe be more specific on the exactly how to find it, but the people of Baxergate street did help us eventually :) also, the hoover that was provided was not the best at cleaning up due to hair in the actual vacuum head and the filter, so they might need to be changed (only giving this feedback so the people who occupy the property next will be able to clean up a little better than we could before they leave, although we did use the dustpan and brush instead). Otherwise it was absolutely perfect :)
