What our customers say about their holidays

This was our 3rd time renting Home and we love staying there - we've already booked again for next June!
The house is very comfortable and large enough for three generations of family to enjoy together and we love the location. We've always enjoyed using the Snug and the PlayStation and appreciate the owner providing games, books and DVDs. However there are a few improvements that could be made. Every time we've stayed the cleanliness has been a bit below standards - nothing worth calling the agents about but the odd bit of rubbish under beds, dust and hair in places. Also, more the fault of previous guests but the chopping boards and other kitchen equipment were quite dirty when we took them out of the cupboards. I appreciate it's a big house and the turn around times are tight but a little extra care and attention to the cleaning would go along way. The main bathroom is getting pretty outdated, especially the carpet and mouldy shower curtain which needs replacing. The partially blocked shower drain in the main bathroom also needs looking at as that always seems to be a bit of a problem. Again, that might just be a cleaning issue. I also really think there needs to be a better recycling system for rubbish. Having the new bin in the kitchen for recycling is great but do you really expect guests to drive to Marlborough to drop it at recycling bins? Although lack of recycling facilities might be a 'Salcombe problem' I'm sure a big rental agency like Coast and Country could employ a private contractor to remove recycling rubbish from all it's properties. On the whole it's a great place to stay and we've always been really happy with the property, but a few little tweaks would make it perfect!

Though this property was overall very good it would benefit from a safety assessment, please see below.
Point 1: on the upstairs landing there is an open plan balcony that drops to the ground floor just inside the front door with a large chair situated adjacent to it. We were so concerned one of our grandchildren could climb on the chair and fall over the balcony we removed the chair to the adjacent bedroom. Point 2: when entering the property via the side gate there are flagged steps down to the lower level with a 4 foot wall adjacent to the steps which allows adventerous children to get onto the wall, this would definitely benefit from a barrier to prevent access to the wall. Our 3 yr old grandson climbed along it and fell off, fortunately landing on his hip then banging his head badly.....could have ended so much worse! Point 3: the trampoline entrance was situated adjacent to the flagged steps stepping down to the garden. The same adventerous child whilst climbing up the steps to the trampoline on one occasion fell backward, fortunately twisting but face planting onto the flagged steps causing facial damage. Had he landed backwards with his head it could have been so much worse. I subsequently cut the ties securing the trampoline in position and rotated the entrance to the grassed lawn. Point 4: the hot water from the taps is exessively hot and could easily scald if not careful. Point 5: the wooden steps down from the outside balcony to the lower garden level would benefit with a small gate to reduce the risk of young children falling down. Also sone of the risers at the back of some steps were missing. Photographs of the injuries are available on request.

I cannot speak highly enough about White Horses, it is a beautiful spacious house which is extremely well equipped with just about everything you need furnished to a high standard. We stayed with our children and two grandchildren who are a year old, and the amount of space for them to crawl around downstairs was just perfect. Having a bathroom with each bedroom was a real treat and so useful at bath time. The location of the house is up a quiet no through road and it is so incredibly peaceful you can literally hear nothing at night except the odd owl! The views out to sea from upstairs and the garden are lovely and the garden planting is beautiful. You can walk to North Sands and South Sands within ten minutes and although the climb back up is a bit more effort it really isn’t far. Salcombe town centre would be a decent walk but from South Sands you can get the little ferry boat straight to Salcombe harbour, and enjoy the fun of the sea tractor to take you out to the ferry! Overall we all had a wonderful stay at White Horses, we loved Salcombe and the surrounding bays and beaches, and couldn’t fault the house in any way. We were very sad to lock the door on the final day and say goodbye, I feel sure we will be coming here again..” Hope this is ok, thank you for an excellent service from start to finish, and I look forward to booking with you again in the future.

Sadly not up to standard for price.
Left very disappointed: I called FIVE times to have the master separated into singles â very rude management company and owner - STILL wasnât done when we arrived (despite advertising this feature). ALL beds should be replaced â VERY soft and uncomfortable. Property is tired and needs a revamp in particular the kitchen and bathrooms. Fridge is terrible â left 5 items in on first night â by morning they had not cooled. Rude owner told us we had overloaded it. Had to use pool fridge for majority of week â no one came to look despite requests. Toilet in en-suite broken â took half the week to be fixed â no apology or mention. THEN charged £75 for a 1cm rip in the pool cover that WAS NOT THERE WHEN WE LEFT. Pool manager even said everything was fine. Have received ZERO responses to my emails â just taken the money and walked. Owner clearly shouldnât be letting the property â Sykes you should ban him. Despite allure of a pool, avoid at all costs. There are much better properties to rent in Salcombe for the same or less money with much friendlier owners.

Sadly quite disappointed with our stay.
Though in a great location we found there is some false advertising for this property and lack of details. I brought my nearly 80 year old mum with mobility issues. Firstly you advertise parking is available at property, this is not true. You donât detail that it is residents parking only and have to park in the car park at the bottom of the town with one issued parking permit. Secondly you advertise the property has a private beach. It does not! You donât detail the property is on three levels. This made our socialising and relaxation with mum very difficult with the lounge being in the loft conversion. The mattress on the ground floor bedroom needs replacing as the springs can be felt when laying down. The heating was set ridiculously high at 24oc and we couldnât work out how to lower this so the double bedroom was like sleeping in a greenhouse. Why donât you fit adjustable thermostats to radiators. Definitely some improvements required here, though will say the cleanliness was very good.
