What our customers say about their holidays
Karen - Verified booking
Photos sent showing the disgraceful state of the kitchen and bathroom areas especially .
We had to clean the floors before we could walk on them ! The state of the place was disgraceful ! The cottage overall was very worn , stains on the mattress covers and the bedding very worn and off colour . Stains on the furniture and the cottage in general felt unclean . There wasnât a quick turn around as the cottage was vacant for 2 days before we arrived and this was not 1 weekâs dirt ! . Reply from Sykes was it is resolved as cleaning was offered after we complained ! ! . I do not feel the case has been resolved. We did complain the day after as the office was closed when we arrived. I did decline the offer of a cleaner for two reasons because the original cleaner had not done a sufficient job and secondly because we were already occupied in the cottage and we had started our holiday and had personal belongings in that cottage at that time and did not wish anybody to come into the cottage whilst we were there and felt uncomfortable as we had complained about the cleaner for them to come back. We should not have to be inconvenience because of the poor condition of the cottage which should not have been in that state to start with . I feel itâs unacceptable to say itâs resolved when we arrived to a cottage that was filthy and dirty and not one weeks dirt and grime either . you can clearly see from the pictures the state of the cottage and I had to clean the floors the evening we arrived as we could not walk on them. Iâm absolutely amazed that both yourself and the owner feel itâs acceptable for us to arrive at a cottage in that state and not to offer any kind of compensation . We also had to request the âgreen â rubbish bags as none had been left at the property , It's also the only property we have stayed in that does not supply oven gloves, but judging by the responses, we guess health and safety is not a priority. We were however left a list of other cottages in the area, along with all of the relevant key box numbers !

We had a lovely break.
Accommodation was good. However the following would have greatly improved our stay- The blinds in the bedrooms are incredibly thin. This meant we were woken up extremely early each morning at 5am or earlier by the light through the window. Blackout blinds would help solve this issue. We could only use one shower at a time. If the other shower was used the first person would get scalded and water pressure greatly reduced. The kitchen tap would start running when the lower basin tap was being used. Oven gloves would have been useful. The patio area was very dirty when we arrived and obviously had not been cleaned prior to our arrival. The table also had not been cleaned. The cushions for the patio furniture had a really strong smell of diesel so much so that we were unable to use them. This was all very disappointing and meant that we didnât use this area which was such a shame as this was one of the reasons we booked this accommodation. There was no seagull bag to put our rubbish into. Overall we did enjoy our stay but having the above rectified would make a future stay even more enjoyable.

A lovely holiday home - it had everything we needed for the week, plenty of kitchen utensils etc.
(maybe too many glasses!) and the whole space was fabulous. The house was very clean when we arrived, the beds were comfortable, some good local information left out... can't really criticise anything. The top-floor shower is quite tight but we could cope with that (I imagine it's difficult for elderly people to use), there is another on the 2nd floor though so not a big deal. The utility room is a useful space, the lounge and garden were perfect for our family to relax in. The parking space is quite tight (this was listed as only suitable for medium cars so that's fair enough) but actually we could just about fit our people carrier in which was a bonus. We loved the week in Salcombe and would absolutely wish to re-book the cottage... ...however that would not be through Sykes directly, they shamefully messed up our original booking meaning Mayflower was a late substitution (which obviously worked out well in the end). I'd recommend going direct to Coast & Country in future (they seem to share cottages across their two websites) - local office, friendly staff - and avoid Sykes.

Moult Cottage is in a fantastic location and great for enjoying North Sands.
The 3 large bedrooms make it easy to accommodate several guests and it was perfect for our family. The kitchen was well equipped and although the dishwasher was broken, it was replaced towards the end of our stay. We felt that although the house was well equipped, we were disappointed to find that it was in desperate need of a decent deep clean as mentioned in previous visitors reviews. Soft furnishings were clearly dirty, there were marks on walls that could be easily cleaned, sand left from previous visitors and even dead flies squashed on windows. The sofas in the lounge felt damp even in August and when we lifted the cushions (searching for lost toys!) they were mouldy. Whilst we were appreciative of two bathrooms, snails had entered the bathroom through the vents and the shower temperature was so dangerously hot and uncontrollable that we chose to shower in another cottage that our family were staying in. The cottage is great in so many ways but better cleaning would make all the difference.

We loved the downstairs space especially with the bi fold doors which really bought the outside space in.
We were lucky to stay in June where the weather was roasting and we made the most of the garden in the early evening for a drink before going out to dinner and also in the morning for breakfast. The downstairs lounge and dinning /kitchen area was perfect for us 4 people and 1 dog. The lounge would be a little small for 6 people and the TV is very small. Unfortunately my son ( who is 6ft 3 struggled abit with the height of the shower in the second bathroom and my partner who is 5ft 9 struggled with the even lower shower in the upstairs ensuite. However the bedrooms were perfectly comfortable . The blinds unfortunately did not stop much light streaming in through the windows from 5am but this would not be a problem if you are not light sensitive in the mornings. Overall a great stay with good location to the centre and for all the lovely walks in the area. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
