What our customers say about their holidays

What a beautiful location.
That's our fourth time staying on Esthwaite farm since June . First time in Bassenthwaite cottage. We found it fantastic as usual. The cottage itself seemed " more cottagey " somehow, having the panelled internal doors with the old fashioned latches. The wood burner is just fantastic. Sitting there in front of a roaring fire brought back memories of holidays in my youth in County Down. The first couple of days the weather was terrible but it didn't put a damper on things. It was great sitting in front of the fire and looking out at the rain. In fact once I woke up in the early hours, went into the living room, the fire was still blazing and there was my wife peering through the window and I thought, if this weather gets any worse I'm going to have to let her in. I found the fire very easy to light although some people have said they could have done with instructions?? The kitchen had all we needed. The cooker was great but we ate out most days. We went into Hawkshead and got some provisions. Teabags, milk and the like. But a few instructions on how to make a cup of tea would have been helpful !!!!! The scenery is spectacular. A recommended walk would be right round Esthwaite water. Through Hawkshead and then round the west side. About 5 miles but not very hilly. Highly recommended. And that's from an almost sixty something. Other great places to see are Tarn Hows, Hawkshead Hill and Grizedale forest is a must. There's a visitors centre with a cafe and also a pottery shop with a potter doing his stuff. This is where we picked up our ceramic poppies all hand painted. A must see place. All in all another great week. No matter how many times you go to the lakes there is always something new to see. We love the place, especially my wife who says she'd like to move to the Lake District. I said I thought it was a great idea but we should write to each other at least once a week. Tommy & Angie Reid

Nice central location for exploring the Lake District.
Parking the car and getting off the drive again is a nightmare, puts you off going again. Was very noisy in the accompanying flat, we were glad that the lady moved out on the Wednesday but loads of noise till late at night from the removal men also, spoilt the evening, although a lady from Skyeâs had called to warn us beforehand. Nice bedroom, but no plug sockets any where near the mirror so I had to buy an extension lead so my wife could plug her hairdryer in. Bed not very comfortable, itâs like sleeping on a slope. Also to appeal to families there could be a sofa bed in the lounge. Kitchen facilities good, strange choice of crockery and cutlery though. Washing machine you need a degree in nuclear science to be able to use it, we eventually sussed out the microwave and cooker bit our washing got stuck in the machine for three days before we could figure out how to open the door! Would be brilliant for an elderly couple as bus stops are very close by, and they could use the free OAP bus passes to explore the Lakes. Car parking charges around the Lake District are extortionate and it costs 40p to use the toilets in many towns!

We loved the fresh cake and prosecco with dog treats - this was a really lovely suprise.
The property overall was fine although we hadn't realised that there was no windows in the main living area so we had to hang out in the bedroom if we wanted a view - and that was limited by the trees. The property heated up well - this was needed since it was jolly cold while we were there. However there were no logs for the log burning stove - we brought some up with us incase this was the case - but if you advertise a log burner and say fuel is included you should provide logs. We tried to get in touch before our holiday to find out if logs were provided and simply couldn't get in touch with Lakelovers - I tried on many occasions and eventually left a message for them to get back to us - still no reply. Very bad customer services - will try to avoid Lakelovers in future. If there was a real problem I have no confidence that we would have got any sort of response from them. We saw a few rats scurrying around outside the property and there was an alarming russling behind the sink so i think the owners need to address the rat situation.

The property's location was perfect for me and also dog friendly too.
So peaceful (silence and no light poution), beautiful views, and not too far from a couple of pubs and the village of Hawkshead. The field adjoining the property was perfect to let my dog Minnie, have a safe run around. I stopped in the Coniston accommodation which was perfect for me, very clean and very comfortable. I had previously read reviews that highlighted that you could hear some noise from the flat above but i accepted that risk when I booked. My lived experience was that during the first 4 days (of my 6 day stay) I heard very little. My last 2 nights was slightly more challenging though. Dont get me wrong, I didn't feel like I had part of the Riverdance dance troop staying above me but the level of noise did increase. Im not sure what the owners can do, other than let the flat above be very aware that not wearing clogs would be more than appreciated by those downstairs. I would advise that if you are easily irritated by any noise from above, then the Coniston isnt for you. I will be going back for sure.
