Dog Friendly Cottages In Dent

The quaint village of Dent is deep in the Yorkshire Dales. Surrounded by the unspoilt National Park on all sides this is a tranquil place for your next cottage holiday. It's ideal for exploring the Dales and getting away from the hustle and bustle for a week.

Dent is near the banks of the gushing River Dee, and the Dales Way runs past here also. This long distance path is an impressive undertaking, and even if you can't walk the whole thing it is still a lovely place to hike along for an afternoon. Despite being a small village it has an interesting history; known for knitting and the famous Adam Sedgwick. The Daledent Visitors Centre has plenty of information about the lives of those who lived here years before. It is a beautiful and unspoilt village to visit. Choose Dent as your base for a dog friendly trip to Yorkshire!

What our customers say about their holidays

A lovely house in a wonderful location, with good facilities.

Although very small, our family of 4 were happy for 5 nights. A few things to watch out for: On arrival,m the key safe box was wide open. Not sure if it hadn't been closed properly or if someone had broken into it, but something to be aware of. In you are tall, you'll bang your head on the hanging lights multiples times during your stay. We had to put a chair under the one in the lounge to avoid injury! Spotlights would make much more sense... ah, the spotlights.. maybe not, beware the spotlight in the shower cubicle, it'll give you a really bad burn because they get far too hot (especially if you're balding like me). The heating - ignore the 25 mins max message unless someone has only just left the property, it took 1.5 hours to get the water hot enough to ensure we wouldn't get Legionnaires! After that, an occasional 25mins was fine to top it up. Thankfully we took our own baking tray because those provided were in the oven and clearly hadn't been washed. Unfortunately we didn't take our own bottle opener, and the one provided was broken. We had some inquisitive slugs roam around the kitchen in the evenings, but they were harmlessly returned outside. It happens, our previous home had them too. 9:30 check-out. Come one really? That's far too early, especially with a family of 4 trying to cook/eat/clean-up breakfast. This definitely needs to be increase to at least 10:30, if not 11. Sedburgh is absolutely lovely, just be careful of some of the 'pubs' (restaurants) as they can really burn your wallet. Check out the Waffle Cone and Red Lion (we had to book). Parking wasn't an issue until the night before our departure, and due to the ridiculous departure time all the spaces were still occupied, so we had to lug our stuff up and down the road. Oh, and say hello to the chap next door if you see him about. He's lovely and doesn't bite. All in all, a very pleasant stay, which we might return to in the future.

The cottage is in a good location just a short walk from Sedbergh.

There are lots of places to visit nearby all within reasonable driving distance. The property description is slightly misleading as it also includes the property next door in the initial photo so overall it was smaller than we anticipated. The lack of outdoor space was not an issue for us and we knew this before booking. We had read on some reviews that people were given a welcome pack but we did not receive one on our recent visit. There were 3 packs of rather sad looking hotel biscuits in the kitchen hamper but nothing else. We presumed there would be a freezer of some sort in the kitchen but that’s not the case. That’s a basic for any kitchen but there wasn’t even a freezer box in the fridge. The kitchen itself is OK for 4 people but it would be very tight for 6 eating in there. The top floor bedrooms had no heating during our stay and despite us reporting this and being assured somebody would call to look into it, nobody turned up. We left the key in the key-safe every day as requested. Whilst the weather was OK it needed some heating on, so this was not pleasant as the radiators were literally stone cold. It’s like they weren’t even connected to the boiler. It was very disappointing to be told it was going to be attended to and for that not to happen without even a call back. The bathroom configuration did not work for us as both bathrooms are on the 1st floor meaning those staying on the 2nd floor had to come down a floor to use the facilities. That may not sound like too much of an issue but the stairs are really steep and narrow. They need more grab rails or ropes on the stairs to make them more secure as losing your footing is not difficult.

This is a new letting in an old cottage which the owners have refurbished to a beautiful standard.

We were honoured to be their first guests! The living room has THE most comfy sofas, plus a spare chair and big footstool, so plenty of room for us all to be cosy despite the weather (we had storms Dudley and Eunice while we were there), and the gas/log burner effect fire made it all the cosier. And it's a good size too. The bedrooms have super comfy beds and there's plenty of cupboard storage for your things. The bathrooms (one is ensuite) are modern and at the same time in keeping with the old cottage. The kitchen is well equipped - as we as a group are still wary of Covid we didn't want to eat out, and it had everything we needed to prepare all our meals. (there isn't a freezer compartment if you want to have ice cream, but there's 2 places to buy icecream in town) The owners welcomed us by text, and were very approachable. - I feel like we have new friends. They also emailed us a PDF with lots of info about the cottage and the area. Parking was no problem - room for at least one car outside and the others very nearby. It's a short walk (5 mins) into the Main Street of Sedbergh, which has independent shops, cafes and pubs/ eateries (next time!), and books for sale everywhere. The surrounding area with the Howgill Fells, access to the Yorkshire Dales or the Lake District, has everything for the outdoor enthusiast (one of our family did get out high each day despite the weather). There's also lovely riverside walks for the less fell-fit. 3 Settlebeck Cottages was exactly what we needed for our first full family stay together under one roof in 2 years, and hopefully we'll come back again.

We absolutely loved our holiday at Bramble Cottage in Sedbergh.

The cottage had everything we needed, it felt like home from home, comfortable and the views of the Hills from our bedroom window was just amazing. This is the first time we came to Sedbergh and it definitely wont be the last, the area was beautiful, there is so many walks with, each unique, and the scenery was amazing which ever walk you decide to do. The one we liked best was the Pepperpot and the Akay Estate were you walk through the school grounds and you can still find the beautiful floor tiles from the Akay Estate in the ground, we did this walk three times, just to feel the history of the place. Sedbergh, although a very quaint town, it is beautiful with so much to it and the fish and chip shop "The Haddock Paddock" was one of the best. Highly Recommended and we will definitely be back, not just to the place itself but also Bramble Cottage. Thank you again. The Stones Family (Chesterfield)

We stayed at this cottage in September 2020, so on this second visit we knew what we could rely upon it however bad the covid restrictions might become, and this part of Cumbria is not as crowded as the Lake District parts are likely to be.

Indeed, all of the walks we took were not crowded. Excellent features We were very happy to be positioned so close to the fells that it was possible to walk straight to them. Similarly the town is only a short distance away, and can be easily walked to. The cottage is in a nice residential area, and this made us feel secure. Slight annoyances with: The hot water tap in the kitchen has extreme hysteresis, meaning that it would not issue any hot water until it was turned on more than would be expected, then suddenly responds with a bump, and issues too much hot water. Then it has to be turned down quickly to stop this high flow. This was wasteful of hot water ! It was exactly like this in September 2020, and I did report it in my subsequent feedback. The extractor fan in the bathroom was quite noisy.
