Lovely little cottage in Little Langdale.

For the price it was good value and we were appreciative because we had booked it last minute. The location is good for exploring the local walks and hills such as Lingmoor. It also was very well located for some great mountain bike routes that I am familiar with. Well equipped kitchen. Beds were very comfy. Useful bike store which just about squeezed two mountain bikes. A few small points that could easily be fixed: I would ask that the owners get a new TV. The TV appears to be over 10 years old and is a bit small and with poor sound quality. In my view there is no excuse for this at all. Please also get more crockery. There is a full size dishwasher so it could easily fit 3 meals worth. Having only 6 plates and limited cutlery means the dishwasher needs to go on after every meal. At one point we had a few friends pop round but there was not even one plate each. I got the feeling that the owners didn't really want people in their cottage as there were about 20 little notes all round the cottage, giving various instructions. I can see the merit for some but others like telling you how to open a blind, reminding you to close the shower door, or why the freezer might rattle, were a bit unnecessary. Two little points which the owners perhaps can't easily fix is that there is no parking and it can be very difficult to park near the cottage during the day. Early morning and after about 5pm it is fine. Unlikely to be a reality but a residents parking system with a pass to put in the window would solve this. The walls feel rather thin so sound does carry around the cottage. WiFi is not great for obv reasons, but does the basics and just about powered Netflix. No mobile signal at all in the area.

I should start this with the context that we had terrible weather (not your fault!

) and I also got food poisoning (lunch at the Britania Inn seems to have been the culprit), so it wasn't exactly the most enjoyable week spent at the Lodge. Listing references "2.5 acres of land to roam in", not sure where that 2.5 acres is as the fenced off garden at the lodge is nothing like that big. There was a paddock type field next to the lodge, but I didn't see any info in the lodge to hint that it was land that we could use. Listing also references the lodge to be "A true Lake District hideaway". I suspect that was written before the absolutely huge house was built right next to the Lodge, which overlooks the whole of the house. We agree with the other published feedback re. sofas in the lounge. They're really not very comfortable and definntely not when your watching the TV which is set high on the wall [unfortunately due to weather and illness I did a lot of TV watching :( ]. Lighting in the lounge was a bit binary as well, very bright with the main ceiling lights on, and only two standard lamps as the alternative. Dimmer on the main lights would have been nice. General quality of the Lodge was very good, but there were a couple of things that need some attention ... one of the curtain rail brackets in the living room was close to pulling away from the wall, and similarly, one of the raidator brackets in the shared upstairs bathroom was coming away from the wall. The back door also stuck, probably due to the very wet weather, it needed quite a nudge to get it open.

It's lovely located cottage with amazing views and its own character and please trust me, I'm not trying to be difficult, but I cannot justify the price we paid with this standard. I'm deeply disappointed with the lack of cleanliness starting from smelly and rooting rug in the bathroom wet from god knows how long (really disgusting). Next, smell of the fuel in one of the rooms with broken window and "notice not to open". I'm not sure if this is safe, but this should be looked by professional. Next, visit the place yourself and see if oven or kitchen hob are clean. During our stay, owen was very dirty (I mean not cleaned properly for a very long timel), and also drops of the very old oil hanging from the hood (it takes long time to build, so as there for wuite a bit). There is also a black sock under sofa in living room, which was quite disgusting to discover when I dropped something... Cleaning materials access to vacuum etc would be also a great benefit if you would like to improve the overall comfort. Waching machine capsules would also be handy for the cost customers pay so they don't need to think about it during their stay. I truly understand old cottage style and already visited many, I just belive it should be very clean and comfortable for the customers considering business character of the property and its cost to stay.

It's an absolutely stunning location, very close to Cathedral caves and Slaters bridge. There's quite a lot of people walking past as it leads to the Cumbrian Way. Very tight road down to the cottage - single lane. Pub about 10 mins walk. The cottage itself is very old so it's quite higgledy piggledy and amazingly thick walls. Lots of steps everywhere so not brilliant for people with mobility issues. Bathroom is downstairs and it's fine - decent space and decent electric shower. It was clean. Kitchen is a good size - underfloor heating works in a small area of it. It's equipped ok. The plates and glasses were dirty though so we had to rewash them. There's a small dishwasher. The downstairs bedroom smells strongly of oil which we notified Original Cottages about and they sent a handyman who said he's been out before due to the same issue. It needs fixing as it's not pleasant. The window is painted shut in the room apart from the small top one which can open a couple of inches. We left that open and the door and the windows in the adjacent rooms but it still smelt of oil. Upstairs theres a small single and a double room which were pretty comfortable. The sitting/dining room is cozy. Comfortable sofas. The internet is ok - not great signal. Could do with some boosters as the walls are so thick.
