What our customers say about their holidays

We loved staying in Bay Tree cottage.
It was comfortable and well equipped. The open fire was a big plus when it was snowing outside-very Christmassy. It was a very quick walk into the shops and pubs in Ambleside and there were plenty of walks to do without driving anywhere. This was ideal as we were snowed in on the Saturday and reluctant to drive due to slippy roads on the Sunday. There is a nice little back/side yard which is secure. Our dog did not escape. It was too cold to use the table and chairs outside, but I imagine it would be fantastic to sit there admiring the view. The only thing I would say is to be aware that the heating/boiler can turn itsself off. This happened a couple of times while we were there. But you can turn them back on by switching the separate switch on the wall under the sensor in the wardrobe of the main bedroom. It took us a while to figure this out, so it might be worth making that clear. Our friend stayed with us for a couple of nights and the owners very kindly allowed her to bring her dog. This is a one dog property, so we were delighted when they agreed to let Ivy come too. We had a fantastic visit-one of the best cottages weâve stayed in for comfort and location.

On arrival about 5.
15pm central heating came on but went off at 8 pm. By 9.30 flat became very cool especially when you went out of the lounge into the hallway. Bedtime 11.30 upstair bedrooms and shower room were extremely cold. Heating still hadnât come on in the morning not pleasant especially when you are in your early 80s. Parking space was only just big enough. We had to take all the luggage/ dogs out of the drivers side because of the tall trees on the passenger side full length of the parking space.. Fortunately enough our Citron Bellingo has sliding doors. Parking space being right on the edge of the pavement on a busy road. Access from the boot wasnât an option as it meant we would be blocking pedestrians walking past and having to walk out on to the road.We decide to leave a day earlier because of no heating. The flat is definitely well over priced for a 2 day stay. Only the kitchen and bathroom were modern rest of the house is in need of a makeover especially the lounge / upstairs shower room. The glass shelf over the sink not practical when you are washing or cleaning teeth. So easy to hit your head and little space to put anything on it

The cottage can only be described as adequate.
The kitchen - crockery and cutlery cupboard falling to pieces as was the cupboard and drawer unit under the draining board. Right hand front gas ring was faulty and needs urgent attention. Upstairs bathroom - no bath mat. Middle bedroom - needs a floor mat. Inadequate hanging clothing facilities in bedrooms. First impression of cottage was disappointment - certainly not helped by the derisory welcome pack for the washing up - certainly not adequate for a two week stay. Why no milk or tea bags in situ after a long journey?? Two toilet rolls for two weeks for in effect 6 people - wow!! Please explain as to why there was no mid term bed linen and laundry change or the offer of a clean - surely we had paid for this. If we had booked the cottage for two separate weeks this would have been automatic. It would seem that some form of recompense is required for a lack of service that was in effect part of the property rental. The lack of all this sadly reflects on our holiday experience at the cottage. It could have been so much better!!

We had a lovely holiday at Fir Tree Cottage.
The cottage is very quirky, on account of it being so old, which made our holiday even more exciting, especially for our 4 children! Nonetheless the cottage was very comfortable, with lovely bathrooms, a well equipped kitchen, nice beds, and a wood burner in the sitting room. It was very spacious, with more than enough room for our family of 6 plus dog. The slate floors downstairs are dog friendly, and the garden is beautiful. Our children loved playing in it after a day out walking. My only 2 comments would be that it would have been nice to have had some basics in when we got there: milk and tea bags for example, in line with other cottages we have stayed in at the past (and some more dishwasher tablets). Also a high chair and cot would have been good. We did bring our own as Iâd checked the day before leaving but it is quite unusual not to have these things (particularly a travel cot). All in all though it was a fantastic holiday, made better by staying in this beautiful historic building.

Perfect location, once parked we did not need to drive out anywhere.
Plenty of good walks straight out of the front door. Very quiet, nice size enclosed garden very good for dogs. The separate laundry room was very useful. We did have a problem with the smoke alarms going off in sequence at random times but Heart of The Lakes managed to sort it out. One piece of advice, if you order a supermarket delivery make sure to give plenty of directions (the ones we received for travelling to the property should suffice). Please note, we had a few difficulties with the front door lock which we did not notice until the end of our stay as one of our family usually stayed at the property while others were out. With several attempts we managed to lock it. If you have a larger group then another towel rail would come in handy. Good size fridge with a small freezer compartment next to the kitchen. I actually managed to spot a red squirrel as well, a nice surprise!
