What our customers say about their holidays

I had a lovely stay at Pine Cottage.
The cottage has all the facilities you need. The bed in the main room was very comfortable and the bedroom decoration was light and fresh. The shower pressure was just perfect and there were lots of towels available. I had great weather so didnât get to utilise the fire, but you have everything you need if you want the fire on. The kitchen has all the necessities, kettle, toaster, microwave, fridge with freezer compartment, oven, plates, mugs, cutlery etc. There is a nice selection of books available in the living room and the high street has a borrow a book service too. The cottage is suitable for a dog, but as downstairs is quite snug Iâd say a medium dog. Youâd need to be careful letting the dog out in the courtyard as the alley way leads directly to the high street so they could make a run for it! There is a field behind the high street which is great for letting a dog off for a run around. To find the cottage is quite simple, once you are in the main high street, look for the pink house and there is a white semi circle painted on the ground where you can quickly park up and unload. To the left of the pink house is a little alley way which leads to a small court yard and the cottage is on your left. There is a parking permit in the house for Joss Lane just up the road which is really handy. If youâre looking to eat locally, the Dalesman isnât suitable for dogs but the Black Bull and Red Lion is, and the shops allow you to take a dog in. I had two lovely meals in the Red Lion. Delicious food, reasonably priced and Hannahâs customer service canât be faulted. The Haddock Paddock is a good chip shop, but you might need to plan when youâre going as they only open for two hours in the evening. The cottage is about 20-25 minutes from Kendal and 40-45 minutes from Ambleside. There are buses that run to Kendal and a good local taxi service is On Time Taxis. All in all, I had a lovely stay and would be back again in a heartbeat.

Pine cottage is a delightful little holiday getaway in a lovely location, to visit/walk in this amazing countryside.
It is set around a small cobbled courtyard, approached by a walkway off the main street (need to bump car onto pavement to unload, but that's no problem, and park under 5 minutes walk away). The cottage was very clean and comfortable, tastefully decorated and furnished (loved the painting of the cows face on the landing) and well equipped and there's bags of hot water for showers etc. The first two floors have central heating and the ground floor has under floor heating which takes the chill off of the flag stone floor, but the wood burning stove, easy to light and clean, makes it as warm as toast in the evenings (logs from local Spar or the hardware shop opposite the information centre) Sedbergh is a smashing little town, with friendly people, craft shops and galleries and lots of nice eateries. The Red Lion pub, very friendly, food great and reasonably priced and a great little bar, The Thirsty Rambler, has opened about 10 steps away, highly recommended. As the walkway to the cottage opens on to the main street, if you have a lively dog that does its own thing, best to keep on a lead when leaving the cottage. Luckily ours sticks to us like Velcro. We were a bit confused about the rubbish bins and recycling, but did our best to follow the instructions in the information pack. A couple of things we felt might enhance visitors stay would be a small radio for news/music (as the TV has Netflix etc and us 'oldies' are Luddites with technology), a small washing up bowl (saves on hot water) and a visitors book for visitors to sign and add comments). Next time we make the drive from London to Westmoreland, we would definitely consider staying at Pine cottage. Thank you for a lovely stay.

The cottage is in a good location just a short walk from Sedbergh.
There are lots of places to visit nearby all within reasonable driving distance. The property description is slightly misleading as it also includes the property next door in the initial photo so overall it was smaller than we anticipated. The lack of outdoor space was not an issue for us and we knew this before booking. We had read on some reviews that people were given a welcome pack but we did not receive one on our recent visit. There were 3 packs of rather sad looking hotel biscuits in the kitchen hamper but nothing else. We presumed there would be a freezer of some sort in the kitchen but thatâs not the case. Thatâs a basic for any kitchen but there wasnât even a freezer box in the fridge. The kitchen itself is OK for 4 people but it would be very tight for 6 eating in there. The top floor bedrooms had no heating during our stay and despite us reporting this and being assured somebody would call to look into it, nobody turned up. We left the key in the key-safe every day as requested. Whilst the weather was OK it needed some heating on, so this was not pleasant as the radiators were literally stone cold. Itâs like they werenât even connected to the boiler. It was very disappointing to be told it was going to be attended to and for that not to happen without even a call back. The bathroom configuration did not work for us as both bathrooms are on the 1st floor meaning those staying on the 2nd floor had to come down a floor to use the facilities. That may not sound like too much of an issue but the stairs are really steep and narrow. They need more grab rails or ropes on the stairs to make them more secure as losing your footing is not difficult.

This is a new letting in an old cottage which the owners have refurbished to a beautiful standard.
We were honoured to be their first guests! The living room has THE most comfy sofas, plus a spare chair and big footstool, so plenty of room for us all to be cosy despite the weather (we had storms Dudley and Eunice while we were there), and the gas/log burner effect fire made it all the cosier. And it's a good size too. The bedrooms have super comfy beds and there's plenty of cupboard storage for your things. The bathrooms (one is ensuite) are modern and at the same time in keeping with the old cottage. The kitchen is well equipped - as we as a group are still wary of Covid we didn't want to eat out, and it had everything we needed to prepare all our meals. (there isn't a freezer compartment if you want to have ice cream, but there's 2 places to buy icecream in town) The owners welcomed us by text, and were very approachable. - I feel like we have new friends. They also emailed us a PDF with lots of info about the cottage and the area. Parking was no problem - room for at least one car outside and the others very nearby. It's a short walk (5 mins) into the Main Street of Sedbergh, which has independent shops, cafes and pubs/ eateries (next time!), and books for sale everywhere. The surrounding area with the Howgill Fells, access to the Yorkshire Dales or the Lake District, has everything for the outdoor enthusiast (one of our family did get out high each day despite the weather). There's also lovely riverside walks for the less fell-fit. 3 Settlebeck Cottages was exactly what we needed for our first full family stay together under one roof in 2 years, and hopefully we'll come back again.

Spent 4 nights here.
Excellent base for visiting the Lakes, and found Sedbergh a lovely place too! Couple of things stand out - firstly the communication with the owner was fantastic. We were sent a photo of where to find Pine Cottage, as it can be tricky to find. I get why others had difficulty, my top tip would be when you see the pink house, park on the pavement right outside it and unpack the car there - the Cottage is up the lane! The Cottage itself was immaculate and a very comfortable place to stay. We had read the previous reviews and would like to point out that the owners have addressed every single comment made. It now has blinds, a pizza cutter, new towels - they really do act on the feedback they receive. There is also a smart Tv with Freesat and a hairdryer in the bedroom drawer unit - and the shower is great!! We parked in the Joss Lane car park each night, as the owners have paid for a permit you can use, very thoughtful, as street parking is at a premium in the village. It was a 3 minute walk along the street, and a lovely walk past the shops. (If youâre looking for a packed lunch âOn a Rollâ does delicious baguettes!)!We didnât light he fire, as our visit was during the great spell of weather, but we wanted to, just to experience the log fire going. Next time! This was a fab base for our holiday, we would happily have stayed longer. Thank you, Hannah and Barney!
