What our customers say about their holidays
Ian - Verified booking
The cottage had a well equipped kitchen including boiling water tap (although a kettle was also provided) and a very good shower room.
Parking was just outside the cottage in their gated courtyard, which is situated near the ownerâs farmhouse. The settee was very comfortable and I also enjoyed sitting in the ârocking chairâ! No mobile signal but the Wi-Fi was good. Much enjoyed the rural view, seeing the cows being moved daily to the top field. The cottage was well placed for sightseeing and would be good for cycling or walking,. We went on the Peak Rail steam train trip from Rowsley to Matlock, on a wet day, and enjoyed Matlock Bath, Ashbourne, Ilam Park, Dovedale, and Bakewell. The relatively nearby pretty village of Winster was a daily visit, for newspapers, local bread, butter, milk and groceries (local shop and Post Office). Sainsburyâs (with petrol station) and other shops could be found at Matlock. The garden was small but very secure for our two small dogs, with a small lawn and paved patio with garden seats - and an outside light for nighttime âvisitsâ. As I was on crutches I did find the steps were quite steep to the garden, with no handrail, but I did manage, with care, and this was of course mentioned in the property description. A very handy porch/boot room to the front of the property was convenient to dry off the dogs and to leave our wet coats, shoes, etc! There was also a washing machine, if required, and a very handy mop! We enjoyed our visit to the cottage and would recommend.

On arrival at the location no obvious sign of Clover Cottage.
Contacted owner via an Intercom system attached to farmhouse door. Owner apologised for non appearance said she would be home as soon as possible. Tried to describe where entrance to cottage was but signal kept breaking up and could not understand what she was saying. Spoke to a lady in the adjoining cheese factory who said she had never heard of Clover Cottage. Eventually found another person at cheese factory who directed me to the property. The entrance was off the farmyard but was not obvious that it was like photos on booking site. Entrance via a very unimpressive leanto to the back door. This led into a small kitchen with no window and then into the living room which was minimally furnished. The bathroom was off this room and was the best room in house with large walk-in shower, wash basin and toilet. The two bedrooms were uninspiring with large heavy furniture, one looking out to garden. The photos on the booking site gave the impression of a much more cosy and comfortable property which it was not. The cottage was described on the web site as "a stunning two bed roomed cottage" Not in my opinion. This short break was to give my wife a bit of a ' pick me up' after a recent stroke but because of what we found as described above we felt that we could not stay and we drove home.

Fantastic place in.
A beautiful village. Very easy to find and great local areas. We arrived and weâre greeted by Simon who was working outside. Very friendly then later weâre treated properly by the host who was friendly and lovely. Great fresh eggs on arrival which was a lovely touch. The cottage/lodge was lovely and quaint. Bathroom was a little tight but absolutely fine. Kitchen was well equipped even with washer and dryer so. The garden which was ours was to the side of the property was beautiful and well kept. No gate tho which at first made me worried but even if you have a pooch that will rub out its perfection safe as itâs a private road /entrance to the house so I was at ease. Just be careful when washing up as the sink is solid and we accident it broke a glass which the host was very understanding and told me not to worry. Literally the main thing I wouldnât recommend which is coming from someone who relys on tech is that the tv needs a chrome cast or some casting device so you can turn the tv into a smart tv and cast from your phone on a evening or if staying in the lodge. I worked from home a few half days while there and would of found it easier. Overall great beautiful lodge in a lovely area !

Positives:- owners left me to it after the initial welcome which i prefer, not a fan of owners checking in all the time.
they left a welcome pack with homemade marmalade which was tasty, some shortbread , different types of tea and coffee. fresh milk in the fridge. bed was comfy and nice thick duvet that kept warm but doesnt make you sweat. had all the amenities you would want, lots of cutterly,plates,salt/pepper/spices etc great views and peaceful issues: Heating is controlled by the owner so if you are cold you would need to ask them to turn it up etc, which just feels like im complaining so i never did and just wore more things. there is no curtains at the front of the conservatory and only netted ones around the sides. the front faces the owners wall with a window in it(they dont ever seem to use this room) which doesnt feel very private at night where you cant see out but they can see in. It's a shared garden which wraps around the house with gates that have lots of space for any sized dog to get through. i broke a knob on a cupboard door moving the spare chairs around to make room, sorry about this. overall it was a good experience that could of been made great with the above issues addressed. 4.4/5 stars
