What our customers say about their holidays

The words 'delightful' and 'idyllic' are not words I would use to describe this accommodation.
I stayed at Barforth Hall Parlour for a week whilst working in the area. My welcome to the cottage was being told by the owner on my day of arrival that check in was from 4pm and to bring my own towels, however this was rectified following my request that I was arriving at 3pm and did not have towels with me. Sadly on arrival I found the accommodation and facilities to be inadequate, basic, gloomy, dated, shabby and depressing. I usually stay in Sykes' accommodation whilst working in the UK so have sampled many different types of accommodation but this one falls far short of the standard expected. Desperately in need of a major make-over and improvements, it gives the impression that the owners just can't be bothered but are happy to take payment for offering sub-standard accommodation. I had to prop the fridge up using DVDs as it was leaning so much all the contents ended up at one side. Basic essentials of holiday accommodation were missing - oven gloves, hairdryer, iron, sweeping brush and pan, washing machine either in the accommodation or nearby, kitchen roll and only one toilet roll provided for the week and a half used bottle of washing up liquid. There was a washing line in the small courtyard but only 6 clothes pegs to use. There was a problem with the cold water which ran out which from reading other reviews, seems to be a recurring problem but the owner did rectify when advised. On the plus side the bed was comfortable, it was quiet and the internet worked well, although I lost my mobile signal as soon as I arrived at the cottage which was a problem. Sadly not somewhere I will return to and I could not recommend to anyone else.

Our stay at this lodge was lovely, the lodge itself was tastefully decorated and had everything we needed for our stay.
Some towels where provided however we did take our own, plenty of kitchen utensils and crockery provided, hairdryer, hoover, and a lovely touch was the hamper of tea, coffee shortbread biscuits and milk in the fridge helped settle us in after a long journey. We rated cleanliness a 3 purely because there was a lot of dust that had settled on the slatted blind's throughout the lodge and the shelving in the en-suite which I had to clean before putting my belongings on it as it was quite thick. Beds were fairly comfortable however nowhere is quite like your own bed and we all slept through. Accessibility to the lodge itself could cause issues with those less mobile, it is high up and from your parking space to the lodge you have to walk up and down deep steps and is not wheelchair accessible. The lodge has a very handy enclosed entrance hall which has a sink and washing machine, this area came in very handy for cleaning muddy paws and removing our shoes prior to entering the main living area. The lodge has a vast amount of storage for your belongings. The lodge is warm and cosy, has beautiful views and a great dog walk, the lodge does not have an enclosed garden and as dogs must be kept on a lead it was a bit of a chore having to put our dog on a lead to let him out to do his business. The owner kindly messaged us upon our arrival to welcome us and to reiterate that if we had any concerns we could contact her any time. Overall we had a lovely stay and we would be happy to stay here again.

We were uncomfortable at the Parlour, the lounge/bedroom area is very small with not a lot of space.
I've lived in a studio apartment for a few years & the Parlour was nowhere near as good. The fire didn't work when we arrived, we were given a portable one until new batteries were fitted the following day. The bed was very uncomfortable with a hard ridge right down the middle so neither of us slept well at all. The sofa not good either, uncomfortable after a while when either watching tv or reading. In the small shower there's nowhere for shampoo/shower gel, & not enough room to bend over to pick them off the base. On the Tuesday we ran out of cold water because the people next door ran off all our cold water, nothing we were warned about at any time, it was sorted out when we went out for the day. The directions we were given were useless, we drove round for over an hour without finding the place, after a few tries we managed to speak to someone who gave us a different post code that worked. The roads have no name boards, & Barforth Parlour didnt have any boards out either. It was so bad we actually left early, on Wednesday instead of Saturday, & it would have been earlier had it not been bonfire night on the Tuesday as we wanted somewhere quiet for our dog who is terrified of fireworks.

March 2025 As a group of 10, we hired the whole Sunday School Spa and I have to say, it was fantastic. The location in the centre of Richmond is perfect and the parking is a breeze and free of charge! Alternatively there is a huge car park at the end of the green, with a nominal charge of course. 5 minute walk up the hill into the main square with loads of restaurants, pubs, shops and places for food shopping. The own Emma met us on arrival and showed us around, making sure we knew how everything worked. She was very lovely and answered any questions we had. She noted that if we had any issues, she was just a call away as she lived close by. The full property is huge, with 6 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, 2 kitchens, 2 lounges, big dining area, outdoor hot tub, sauna and cold plunge. It's immaculately presented, with super comfy sofas, there's a wood burning fire in the front room for cozy night in. Multiple TV's with satellite connection and great wi-fi. We really enjoyed staying there and will come back again for sure.

This is the worst place I have ever stayed.
Unclean, bedding ripped and didnât fit the bed properly. Water pressure is none existent. Lots of Beetles, flys and spiders within the property because the property is not sealed. If ur bigger than a womenâs size 14 you will not fit in the very small shower. Nearest Take-Away is 20 minute drive because you are in the middle of the country. You do not get any welcome pack no milk, butter, bread, tea, coffee. All you get is half a toilet roll. I was asked to drive my rubbish half a mile down the track to the bins. These cottages have people every week yet there are very few recent reviews which should tell you something. The reviews that have been left say how nice the owners are and thatâs because there are so many problems that you will see them often.
