What our customers say about their holidays

Hi, we absolutely loved our stay and it was decorated beautifully, so modern and comfortable.
Just a couple of minor things, there was a bit of a smell, when the doors were open it was fine you got used to it, but when we got up in the morning the smell was quite sour until we opened the doors. I stayed in the side room, there was no sockets near the mirror, there needs to be an assessable socket for us to do our hair etc, and there was nowhere to hang my clothes up in that room, I had to share with my guests in the front room. This is not a criticism just more of a suggestion, everywhere Iâve been where it is dog friendly, thereâs always been a welcome basket of some sort, with bowls provided (not for keeping, just provided) some dog treats, sometimes a cheap blanket or toy (you can get a cheap pack of balls and leave a ball), some places leave some dog milk or pawsecco, and most have even took the time to ask their names and incorporated it somewhere in the package. Not saying you have to go that far but itâs a nice touch. Although it states dog friendly it didnât feel it, I think with the lack of anything for a dog just made it feel they werenât welcome. Like if you provided dog bowls or even a dog bed for if the owners have forgotten it or itâs an option to use the bed provided, I would of used the bed provided because not having to bring a dog bed as well as everything else is very welcome. Also a nice little welcome package for your human guests would be nice, maybe a nice note welcoming us with our names or at least the bookers name and maybe some small individual bottles of wine or Prosecco and some cookies or chocolates, it doesnât have to cost a lot. Not having these things did not take away from our stay as we loved it, and you provided everything we needed for our stay, but they could add to the experience, and I think itâs the personal touches that draw us back, I personally think that within the price this could be incorporated. I think the instructions for entering the property need to be made clearer, it just stated touch the pad with fingers, I didnât realise it meant put all 4 fingers on the pad. It might be stupid on my part but I thought it was a bit misleading, and we wasted a good 40 minutes trying to enter the property. The edges on the porch steps are quite sharp and with the steps being steep it was quite frightening to watch my dad whoâs bad on his feet going down them, it would also be dangerous for small children. I think a hand rail on top of the wall on the right hand side would be helpful and if there was something to round the edges of the steps. With all being said I would 100% recommend staying here as there was no real problems, it was gorgeous and comfortable and had everything we needed.

Perfect week.
Everything was as anticipated and listed. Kitchen is tight but you can soon work around that and we managed to cook a full breakfast and dinner each day with all utensils provided. Host are very helpful when called, and the only times we needed to do so the information was already on hand to sort in the welcome pack (it had just been left somewhere we didn't see it). We are a family of 4 - 2 Grown up Adult Kids - and 18 yr old and a 6 yr :) old. Was lovely to be able to just leave the car and walk to both bays. Though it is street parking do not be put off? On our experience you don't have far to look to find a space. Outside there is an are where you can pull in and unload/ load up even if you have to park on the next street. Our tip? On windy days when the wind is from the Sea, stick to the South Bay Beach- if you have a dog like ourselves then head toward the spa. Other days we prefer the North bay beach but food options there are limited. Less crowded though. Its all about the tide too.... we were lucky with high tides from about 4pm onward through the week. Best Fish n Chips? North Bay Fisheries. Near Peasholm park check google but be prepared to queue. Its worth it. 2nd is the Lifeboat which is 2 minutes walk. We will be back if time allows. A beautiful cottage.

Our stay was very disappointing and unwelcoming; it was certainly not value for money.
I had to clean the fridge before I could put food in it, a used towel was left on the bathroom radiator, the bath mat had some dubious stains on it and we weren't sure if the double bed had clean linen (the duvet was so crumpled, it looked like someone had slept under it). The small bedroom should have been a single room - having two narrow beds in there made it very uncomfortable and difficult to sleep. Previous occupants had put cooking trays and dishes away dirty, although in all fairness, the dishwasher didn't dissolve the tablet when we used it so we had to rewash some dishes. The front door needs some attention - it was difficult to open from the outside and we often had to resort to putting a shoulder against the door. We drove past the cottage because the name was obscured by plants. It was not clear where we should park, before we had read the instructions inside the cottage, and we didn't know if we could use the garden which was a shame as it was lovely weather. We understood that a welcome pack wasn't guaranteed but having a written message on the chalkboard about items that had been "left", such as milk and bread, but weren't actually there made us feel like the owners had really made no effort for us at all.

We had a wonderful stay in Flat 1 thank you.
Our immediate response was "wow". The layout and cleanliness was faultless. However, I had read a review about the mirror and trouble drying hair in the second bedroom I had meant to take a mirror but forgot. I ended up using my phone on the window sill. A mirror on the wall near the window, where the picture is would be helpful. Or an extension lead! The toilet in the bathroom was tempormental and took several flushes to clear. And the water in the shower in the shower was slow to leave. I wondered if the plumbing is affected by high tide? My disabled niece struggled with the steps to the front door. I wonder if less able people could use the gate into the yard and let into the flat that way? The information folders were a God send - especially for the induction hob ! - It might be an idea to include how to open the bi-folding doors. I had to ring for help which came very quickly from you lovely caretakers. Also information about the bus that travels along West Road. I have already told all my friends about this wonderful flat and will be happy to return. Access to the yard was great. We all loved it, especially dog.

We really enjoyed our stay at St Mary's Cottage.
The property had everything we needed and we got a change of bedding and towels midway through the stay which was very welcome. The bathroom has recently been improved with a walk-in power shower, having a large rain-style shower head as well as a standard movable one. Bedrooms were comfortable and clean. Although there is a pub at the end of the street, there was never any noise or disturbance from this, so the location was excellent, being close to the beach, shopping area, church and castle. I would certainly recommend this property to a small family and would gladly stay again. Our overall experience with Sykes was average. Initially it was poor, like many experiencing difficulties in changing a booking due to Covid restrictions. However it appears as if the service you receive depends very much on who you get through to in customer services. Eventually there was someone who was happy to make the necessary changes and I think Sykes have improved since receiving so much bad feedback, being more accommodating with booking changes. Hopefully this will continue.
