What our customers say about their holidays
Martin - Verified booking
There was 9 of us from 5 different areas.
the couple staying in the upstairs on suite said the mattress was very lumpy, the shower was dirty and have taken pictures of it.under the Matt was awful. the end of the bed had 2 dead spiders under the duvet and hit there head various times on the beams. the whole room needed a good fettle. the 2 rooms upstairs mattresses were awful lumpy and old .the down stairs bathroom with shower was like the upstairs one under the mat was awful and they have taken pics of that as well. the main issue was the 3rd bedroom down stairs was not in the main house y.we needed it as my 95 year old mum had to be down stairs and my disabled partner and my 73 year old who has cancer issues so needed no steps.and finally my brother had the 3rd dog so can not have any of the upstairs rooms as dogs have to stay down stairs but are not allowed to be left alone at any time. so this 4th down stairs room is down 2 steps into a double garage lots of leaves and cold and across up to 2 more steps into the room. which was cold as connected to the garage. and i did not see this in the description. so this ment no one wanted to sleep in there and my sister had to stay upstairs instead. not happy having to walk up the stairs every day.we found 50th birthday balloons behind one of the sofas in the main living room and rubbish under it. a long blue sort of bed runner stuffed behind another settee and a fork.the tv in the quite room coming off the main room had a tv but it took me and my brother 2 hours to get it to work a rite palaver.and the main tv in the main room on the wall was a pain as well eventually buying new batteries as the remote did not work..surely they should be checked there working every time it is leased.the 2 ovens do not work properly.the built in one on the left gets hardly hot. and the other one new world, the oven took 5 hours to cook roast spuds which would normally take no more then 2 hours in a normal oven.the main fridge freezer in the kitchen is as had been mentioned by others is a joke.every time you open the fridge this opens both the fridge and the freezer.the door is as one not separate so the freezer had to be defrosted twice putting water from the lumps of ice on to the floor.slip hazard, the doors should be separate .as the build up of ice stops the door from sealing .making the ice form outside of the seals.also the tumble dryer does not dry the clothes as every 1 min it turns it self off.all in all not a good stay.if you want to see the pictures from my brother i will get him to send them to you.if they pay a company to clean the house they need to find a proper cleaning company.as they are letting them down.

Our first impression was that the house was spacious and clean.
However, having looked around, there were some major issues with cleaning and maintenance. Other peopleâs dog poo bags were left outside by a plant pot and poo in the rear garden, which we cleaned up. The cigarette butt holder was rammed full and butts had fallen onto the ground. There were cobwebs in most rooms which had been there for some time along with higher level dust. Kitchen pans/grill tray still had fat/food residue and some plates were not clean. We had to wash before using some. One cooker top was splattered in fat. One bedroom had peanuts under the bed. Toilet brushes/holders were all filthy, one had poo in the brush. The spa bath plug was full of hair, which we had to remove for the water to drain and the same with the downstairs shower room. This shower was also mouldy/dirty and the tray moved when it was stood on - it had a mat stuck to it with sealant which looked disgusting. The shower in the en-suite to bedroom 3 had a pungent, stagnant water smell and we bought bleach to get rid of the smell which had crept into the bedroom. The upstairs en-suite shower tray was in the same condition as the downstairs shower room but also had a rusty shower pipe and rust on the door and light. We also found (as a previous review last October) the same issue with the fridge/freezer doors being joined together which made the freezer ice up and unusable. Two trays on the fridge door were cracked. The lounge door was missing its catch so could not be closed. Snug door was tricky to lock/unlock. DVD player was not connected and, when plugged in, did not work. We had to buy batteries for the remote controls which did not work/missing. When going into the back entrance, the door mat is not thick enough for its inset and is a trip hazard. None of the extractor fans work. The bedroom across the garage needs another light in the garage to illuminate the steps when leaving that bedroom. The WC upstairs has a broken tap and light fitting which is taped up. The heating control has been changed and the heating is only on for 6 hours a day being controlled by the owners phone. As we had snow one night it was cold for the 1 year old in our party so contacted the owner who said he would put it on constant, but never did. He turns the heating off in April according to the welcome book, which is outdated. On a positive note, the property is spacious and well equipped, the owner is approachable and visited before we left to hear our concerns. He has, apparently, now spoken to his cleaners and changed the broken tap. We do have photos of the issue mentioned.

The house is in a fabulous location walking distance to Peasholm Park which is a massive family area with lots of walks and a lake with pedaloes to hire.
The beach is also just a short walk away that allows dogs on there in certain sections. When the tide is out itâs a beautiful beach and the dogs loved running on the sand! Along the beach front thereâs a few shops, eateries and ice cream shop. Further along thereâs the sea life centre, crazy golf everywhere and another pub. From the house, thereâs a convenience store just at the bottom of the road plus a chip shop, cafe and pub. Larger stores like Aldi are a good 20 minute walk away but easy to get to. The road and area the house sits in was very quiet and pleasant. The house was very clean and exceeded our expectations with the size of the bedrooms. Very comfy beds and all rooms having TVs (one remote missing though). The facilities were fabulous, the house had everything we could want inside. The toaster did keep tripping the electric off. There were some plumbing issues in the house that meant one en-suite couldnât be used but the owners had tried to rectify this while we were there. We were extremely disappointed with the âback yardâ that could only be described as a concrete box. This really let it down for us. This house is definitely not dog friendly! The hot tub was a winner with the kids but some money needs spending on flooring around it as have to step in and out on to concrete, leaving muck in the tub and back in the house. The WiFi barely worked which wasnât great with kids but was not an issue. Parking was advertised as two off street parking spaces and one on the road but a permit was needed to park on the road so couldnât do this? If a garden is not an issue then this house is definitely worth a visit!!! Unfortunately we are all outside and garden lovers so would not come back based on that alone.

We appreciate that our booking in the last week of August prior to the Bank Holiday, was always going to be the most expensive week to book.
So bearing in mind that we paid "top dollar" for the week, you may believe that some of our issues are nit picking or over stated, but for over £6000 for the week, we expected more and better facilities.... However, in the spirit of "Continuous Improvement", we submit the following suggestions and additions, which would improve the experience of future guests, and encourage us to consider another stay in future: In the Kitchen. A small frying pan A butter dish Egg cups Prosecco glasses Non metal spatulas, (as the pans were quite scratched). Mat by the back door Bedrooms Not all had bedside lamps or mirrors Hair dryers made available. Maintenance. The tap in the kitchen continually drips. Double bedroom on the first floor window did not open. Shower tray with hairline crack meaning wet and damp in the shower room. In the shared bathroom on the first floor the shower door has a gap so the carpet got wet, there was also a crack in the base of the shower tray. Also the taps were plumbed the wrong way in the sink (hot tap cold water and vice versa) We also noticed a stain on the ceiling of the bedroom underneath it, which may be connected to the leaking shower. Ultimately, because we are a family who "get on with it", no matter what the issues, we had a ball. We loved the location, the large open family spaces, kitchen, hot tub, nice beds in good sizes bedrooms, and generally very clean, just not worth the money. The photos of the outside garden gave the impression of small but usable outside space, not so, and no downstairs loo was not a "convenience". If all these things could be addressed, we'll be back, Scarborough always delivers, we love it!

The property is spacious and well presented.
The kitchen was very well equipped and the lounge was comfortable. Location is excellent and parking wasn't an issue. The biggest issue for us was the top two bedrooms. These were far from the standard of the rest of the house. They are too small for adults to move and stay comfortably as the roof restrictions make it difficult. There was little space to stand, even for shorter adults. The stairs up were perilously steep and the rooms were not well presented at all. Both rooms lacked any of the touches seen on the lower floors and access to the shower room was ridiculous because it was so small. They felt like an after thought compared to the rest of the house. 3 guests who used those rooms were not particularly happy. We planned a family BBQ during our stay as the description says there is a secure garden. There is no garden, no grass, nowhere to sit outside, just an enclosed yard that is big enough to let a dog out briefly. Suffice to say we changed plans! The house next door is being converted into a HMO so currently there is a lot of associated building noise. It's not too bad during the day, but during our stay they started about 7am and woke up the entire house. We called the local contact and she had a word with them and the start time was later for the last day we were there. Some advance notice that builders were there would have been helpful. It seems they've been there a while and will be there a while longer. This is a great holiday house up to the second floor, located centrally to the town centre and the sea front is walking distance. A great base for a family holiday.
