What our customers say about their holidays

Great location for a short stay as it is about 1 mile from Bakewell.
Cottages are Ok, we stayed in Larkhill Suite. Cottage was too dark (wrong sort of lighting imo) for my personal liking, upstairs is cosy. The master bedroom has a roof window which could bring in lots of light if the owners didn't bolt the blind down as it was broken and instead of replacing it they just prevent it being used. Shower is tiny and a struggle to use. The sink had a leak which we reported and someone promptly came to fix it but after he left we did a test and was still leaking a little so we just put a bucket under it. My biggest bug bear of this place was the farm dogs. On the first night the kids were happily playing then got totally freaked out and upset by the dogs barking at them. The farm dogs seem to be allowed to run freely and poo wherever they want. The farm dog was seen pooing every morning, it was cleared up straight away after I called the owner but about 4 hours later if I didn't call rhem, what annoyed me is there is sign saying 'please clean up after your dogs'. Note; this cottage is on a working farm right next to the cow barn so you get the country smell and sadly 20+ flies inside daily. Overall we won't be here again

A great weekend break in The Dairy.
Terrific location and a very well-equipped and well maintained property. Would certainly recommend. A few minor points for the owners (we have had a holiday rental on various sites for 25 years). Price seemed to be top-end at £1900 and the other properties at Lowfield Farm were not occupied, so flexible pricing might help with occupancy numbers. A Book of the House would be a really useful addition with how everything works, local facilities, public footpaths etc in one place. The laminates were ok, but not comprehensive e.g. told to switch off hot tub, but not where (we worked it out, but better written down). How to switch off outside lights ? On a timer, but on all night ? Couldn't find oven-gloves ? Sure they must have been there somewhere. Missed the instruction to strip bed linen and place in bathroom - laundry bags would help, and save servicing time. Wooden garden furniture showing its age. Hope this helps. We intend to be back as it was a memorable place to visit, and Youlgrave is a great village to hang out in.

The barn is very clean, but needs updating badly.
The shower is way too small, my husband had to leave the shower door open because there was not enough room to close the door !! Also for 4 people there was not enough storage to put things away. Very disappointed. The 3 farm dogs were so agressive ,one actually attacked our dog and if the owner wasn't there to pull him off then it could have been an awful situation. They were able to get into the so called secure garden and 4 times they did poos, which we refused to pick up!! So you had to watch where you were walking. We couldn't open windows upstairs and the locks on the double doors going out to the garden need looking at. Also no long handled brush to use, we certainly weren't hoping to get down and brush with the dustpan and brush. Nearly all the places we've stayed in leave a drop of milk when you arrive. It's a nice touch. The owner seemed very nice and it's situated in a really good place .but we wouldn't stay there again.

It was a lovely cottage in a great location which was very peaceful.
However despite information stating that the heating and towel rails came on they didnât and there were no instructions. I rang the contact and advised that there are numerous comments in the visitor book stating the same issue and yet nothing has been done about it. We had to manually turn it on morning and evening and it seemed that if you tried to put it on outside âset timesâ it didnât come on. Really disappointing and not what you expect having paid over £600. There was an hour wait to call Sykes due to Covid so was unable to speak to anyone. Also there was no mattress protector which we only found out when we stripped the bed which is unacceptable in these COVID times. Also would recommend that people are advised to put everything in the dishwasher before they leave and cleaners unload with gloves so you know it is all clean. This was done at the cottage we stayed at prior to this and we felt very safe using everything.

The Dairy and Annex were wonderful and we reqlly enjoyed our stay.
The only comment we had is the layout of the living area in the Dairy. Whilst the old church pew is lovely, it dominates the room and restricts the living area for a large group. We ended up turning the dining table around and moving the setties into 2 halves to create more of a social u-shape seating area around the fire, but this was obstructed by the pew. A shorter bench seat/pew for the dining table, allowing a c-shape settee area would be much more sociable for groups of 10, which isbwhat the cottage caters for. This was the only downside for a large group, everything else was perfect and our 6 group dogs loved the garden and house. The walks from the property are fab and we did several. A great place to stay with friends.
