What our customers say about their holidays

Bit underwhelmed by this property.
Television didn't work no band width. Came next day to repair and improve. However whole media system needs a rethink. Password for Wifi not our devices indicated weak password and device would be insecure. The caretaker Charles came straight away and was helpful. Barbeque dirty no Barbeque tools tried to light just poured black smoke as so much fat on burners. Really needs new barbeque. Some of the equipment in kitchen needs updating i.e. dishwasher front panel loose from inner panel. Lovely new non stick frying pan etc but no non stick tools only metal!!! Had to go out and buy some. No welcome pack I know some cottages don't, but can' help but compare to our last Sykes Cottage which was friendly comfortable and great welcome pack. Also have stayed at a number of places where welcome packs etc have been provided. These people couldnt even be bothered putting a pint of milk in the fridge. Property inside very modern but impersonal. Sofas not in a good position to watch television. We were ok with drive, but had the two other cottages adjacent to us been occupied there would have been severe problem getting in and out overall the access to the road would have been difficult due to narrowness of gate. The front would then look a bit like a car park and not somewhere you would like to sit. The area around the cottage is beautiful but no real view from the small back patio. We have never in all the properties we have stayed at been requested to strip all bed linen and put into bags, plus towels etc into separate bags. This may be a left over from covid but not relevant now. Would not return to this property and I certainly wouldn't call it luxury not value for money.

The property was lovely with great views of the River Dart, but our stay was let down by the innaccuracy of the listing and subsequent poor communication with regards to parking, and issues accessing the property upon arrival.
We booked via Vrbo and had shortlisted a number of properties in Dartmouth, but opted for Ty'r Ddraig because of the listed 'onsite parking' under the Property Amenities. However, upon booking we were instructed to register a Sykes account for the booking confirmation, on which we found out that the onsite parking was no longer available, and instead replaced with a parking permit for the Mayor's Avenue car park - which turned out to be a 10 minute walk away from the property and extremely busy at peak times, so not always guaranteed a space. When we found out about the parking we messaged Sykes via the 'Contact Host' option on the Vrbo app to get details about how far the car park was from the property, and whether a space would be guaranteed, but never got a reply. We then phoned and couldn't get any answers so decided to just play it by ear when we arrived. When we did arrive for 5pm check-in there was no key in the keysafe so we had to phone Sykes, who then had to contact the local agent to come with a spare key to let us into the property. In all it was sorted within 30 minutes or so, but wasn't the best start stood outside the property with all our bags, etc. on top of the let down with the parking. In summary, lovely place to stay, but need to change the misleading listing on Vrbo with regards to onsite parking, improve comms when contacted, and check there is a key in the key safe before people arrive for check-in.

Comfortable accommodation with quality fittings.
Pretty location but no views from inside the property or garden.Problem with the dishwasher promptly dealt with. Cleanliness disappointing, dust on light fittings, grubby glass tables, table mats worn and not very clean, dining chairs worn. We have stayed in many self catering accommodations and have always been provided with basics. To be asked to take our own tea towels was strange. The only item left was some oil, pepper and a tin of tomatoes. Rural Retreats who we usually book with provide an amazing welcome hamper and the cost of this accommodation was on a par with some of their properties. How much would it cost to provide some milk, hand wash etc? The instructions to work the TV were inadequate and after a couple of days we enlisted the help of the younger couple renting next door who helped us out. The TVâs in the bedroom would only play the channel selected upstairs and whilst this was stated on the screen we were not aware of it before booking. If anyone wanted to watch a different channel from upstairs they were unable to do so. Garden needed weeding. In conclusion we felt the the cottage was not worth the money.

Huffin, a delightfull, upside down cottage!
. on a VERY steep lane, as was expected in Dartmouth! As an 80 year old, i managed to drive my car up and down this narrow , steep lane! luckily i took my mobility scooter with me so i could go down to the town quite easily when we wanted to go to the market, shops etc. The cottage stairs very steep, I just about managed them! i would suggest the owners put a hand grip in the upstairs shower cubicle, as the step quite high, and no anti slip mat on cubicle tray. the cottage very well appointed, had everything we needed. the duvet ag the car with too much stuff bit too thick for summer months, perfect for the first 3 days whilst the weather cold, but too hot after when the weather got warmer. may i suggest a thinner duvet with a throw if it should turn cold. There was even picnic utensils, but we had brought our own as we didn't know they were there! might be worthwhile putting this on the details.

The cottage was lovely with everything you need however the location wasnât ideal.
A great place if you want to explore the area and then stay in at night. The cottage is situated at the bottom of a long narrow single track lane. Ok if youâre used to driving/walking down similar tracks but a bit of a white knuckle ride hoping that you donât meet cars coming in the other direction if youâre not, we did. Very few if any pull in points so itâs reveres down the long track. At night there is no lighting apart from the occasional house and again even though itâs only 20/25 min walk it is steep and very dark. If youâre staying in Autumn/Winter months and out walking back after dark take a torch.I donât want this to be negative as we had a great time and loved the cottage but it needs to be clear about location and access. Also to note if youâre using satnav it doesnât get you there, once it says youâve arrived keep going. Itâs about another 5/10 mins down the track.
